To use DCS World Quick Action Generator, extract and launch the utility, select your installed map and aircraft, set the mission type, start position, opposition, time and weather, then generate a .miz file. Open that file from DCS World’s Mission screen, or inspect and adjust it in Mission Editor before flying.
Quick Action Generator is an external mission-building utility, not DCS World’s built-in Create Fast Mission command. Releases can expose different labels and options, but the core workflow is the same: configure a scenario, write a .miz, then let DCS load it.
How to generate a DCS .miz mission
The safest workflow is to generate one simple, flyable scenario first, verify it in DCS World, and only then increase its complexity.
- Extract the complete package. Keep all included folders together in a user-writable location. Do not run the utility from inside its compressed archive, because it may be unable to find templates or save its output.
- Launch the generator. If it asks for the DCS installation location, select the simulator’s main installation folder. If it asks separately for an output folder, choose a normal writable folder rather than somewhere inside the DCS installation.
- Select an installed terrain. The generated mission will not open without that map. Start with the free Caucasus terrain if you want the fewest ownership-related complications.
- Choose your aircraft and role. Select an aircraft module you own, then choose a task such as air-to-air, strike or close air support. Where the utility provides a player-skill option, use Player for a single-player aircraft or Client for a selectable or multiplayer slot.
- Set the starting state. An air start is best for testing the generator. Use a hot ramp start for a shorter departure or a cold start when cockpit preparation is part of the mission.
- Configure the opposition. Begin with low enemy numbers and limited air defences. Random unit placement can otherwise create overlapping groups, impossible threat rings or targets far beyond the selected aircraft’s practical range.
- Set time and weather. Use daylight and reasonable visibility for the first run. Once the mission works, add darkness, cloud, wind or poor visibility.
- Generate and save the mission. Preserve the
.mizextension and note the destination folder. Do not extract the resulting file; a DCS mission is already an archive in a format the simulator understands. - Check it before flying. Open the mission in DCS Mission Editor and confirm the player aircraft, start position, route, targets and payload. Which Quick Action Generator settings should I choose?
Choose forgiving settings for the first generation, then change one variable at a time so that any failure has an obvious cause.

Where does Quick Action Generator save missions?
The generated mission normally goes to the destination selected in the utility or, in some releases, an output folder beside the generator itself.
DCS World can browse to a .miz stored elsewhere, but a convenient permanent location is the Missions folder inside your DCS Saved Games profile. A common path is %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS\Missions; the DCS profile folder may have a different branch-related name on older or migrated installations.
Avoid placing personal missions in the simulator’s installation directories. Repairs and updates can replace files there, while Saved Games is intended for user content.
Why will the generated mission not load?
Most loading failures come from a missing terrain or asset, an incomplete generator extraction, an unwritable output folder, or an outdated mission template.
- No
.mizappears: extract the whole utility, choose a writable output folder and check that security software has not blocked the generator from writing files. - DCS reports a missing map: regenerate the mission on an installed terrain or install the terrain associated with the existing mission.
- The map opens but there is no Fly button: the mission probably lacks a unit marked Player or Client. Change that aircraft’s skill in Mission Editor and confirm it is a flyable module you own.
- The mission opens with missing units: it may use an asset package or third-party aircraft mod that is not installed. A
.mizdoes not include the required terrain, modules or mods. - Units spawn on top of each other or immediately die: reduce unit density, change the starting area or regenerate the mission. Random generation cannot judge every terrain feature, runway or threat placement.
- Scripts fail or the mission is blank: try a clean generation with the complete package and no optional units. Opening and resaving the file in Mission Editor may refresh its mission format, but it cannot repair missing generator templates or incompatible scripts.
Can generated missions be edited or used in multiplayer?
A generated .miz is an ordinary DCS mission, so it can be edited, hosted and shared like one created manually.
For multiplayer, change flyable aircraft to Client slots rather than Player, add enough slots for the group and test the mission on the host before inviting other pilots. Every participant still needs the required terrain and any third-party mods used by the mission.
