Can you fly the Antonov An-225 in X-Plane 11 or 12?

In short

Can you fly the Antonov An-225 in X-Plane 11 or 12? Learn which add-on format works, how to install it and why MSFS or FSX files fail.

You can fly the Antonov An-225 Mriya in X-Plane 11 or X-Plane 12 only if you have a compatible third-party X-Plane aircraft package; it is not included by default. Packages made for MSFS, FSX or Prepar3D will not work merely by copying them into X-Plane’s Aircraft folder.

Is the Antonov An-225 included with X-Plane?

No, the Antonov An-225 is not part of the default aircraft fleet in either X-Plane 11 or X-Plane 12. A flyable Mriya requires an add-on containing an X-Plane aircraft definition, model, cockpit, textures and any required sounds or plugins.

Do not mistake a matching aircraft name for X-Plane compatibility. Our flyable An-225 package for Microsoft Flight Simulator is MSFS-only, while the Mriya package for FSX and Prepar3D uses those simulators’ formats. Our Antonov aircraft for X-Plane 11 is an An-12 Cub rather than the six-engine An-225.

A repaint or livery is not enough on its own. It changes the appearance of an existing model and cannot turn another Antonov aircraft into an An-225.

Which An-225 package works with each X-Plane version?

Choose a package that explicitly names your X-Plane version rather than relying on the presence of an .acf file alone.

Package typeX-Plane 11X-Plane 12
Made for X-Plane 11Correct choiceMay load, but systems, sounds or flight behaviour can fail
Made for X-Plane 12Use only if XP11 support is statedCorrect choice
Made for an older X-Plane generationCompatibility uncertainPoor choice without a documented update
MSFS, FSX or Prepar3D aircraftNot compatibleNot compatible

For X-Plane 12, a native or explicitly updated XP12 release is the safest option. An older aircraft being visible in the selector does not prove that its cockpit, plugins, flight model and animations work correctly.

How do you install an An-225 in X-Plane?

Install a compatible An-225 as a normal add-on aircraft inside the simulator’s Aircraft directory.

  1. Extract the archive outside X-Plane. Do not leave the aircraft compressed as a ZIP, RAR or similar archive.
  2. Check the package contents for at least one .acf aircraft file and its associated objects, textures and other folders. A package containing only image files is probably a livery.
  3. Copy the complete aircraft folder into X-Plane 11/Aircraft/ or X-Plane 12/Aircraft/. Do not put it in Custom Scenery.
  4. Follow any included plugin instructions exactly. Do not move an aircraft-specific plugin into X-Plane’s global plugin directory unless the documentation requires it.
  5. Start X-Plane and open the aircraft selector. Look under the aircraft’s supplied name or manufacturer rather than assuming it will be filed as “Mriya”.

Our broader X-Plane mod installation and troubleshooting instructions cover folder placement, archives and package conflicts in more detail.

Will an X-Plane 11 An-225 work in X-Plane 12?

An X-Plane 11 An-225 may open in X-Plane 12, but loading successfully is not the same as full compatibility. Use the XP11 version in X-Plane 11 unless its developer or documentation specifically confirms XP12 support.

  • Aircraft missing from the selector: confirm that the archive was extracted, the folder sits within Aircraft, and it contains a usable .acf file.
  • Missing airfoil, object or texture errors: the package may be incomplete or built around older resources. On Linux, mismatched capitalisation in file names and paths can also expose errors that remain hidden on Windows.
  • Dark or non-functional cockpit: an included plugin or older dataref may be incompatible with X-Plane 12. Changing graphics settings will not repair unsupported aircraft systems.
  • Incorrect engines, gear or handling: the older model may not be tuned for X-Plane 12’s flight model. Use a proper XP12 update rather than treating unusual behaviour as normal for the An-225.
  • Crash while loading: remove the aircraft and inspect Log.txt in the X-Plane root folder for the last aircraft or plugin errors.

Opening an old aircraft in Plane Maker and saving it is not a complete conversion. That may update the aircraft definition, but it does not rebuild incompatible cockpit code, plugins, sounds, textures or animations. Converting an MSFS, FSX or Prepar3D An-225 requires source assets, suitable tools and the necessary licence permissions; it cannot be done by renaming or rearranging files.
