Learn what Orbx Jurassic World: Archipelago adds to Microsoft Flight Simulator, its MSFS 2020/2024 support, installation and common fixes.
Orbx Jurassic World: Archipelago is an officially licensed, paid scenery expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator that recreates Isla Nublar and Las Cinco Muertes with handcrafted terrain, Jurassic-themed landmarks and animated dinosaurs. It is an area to explore by aircraft, not a standalone game or a replacement for the simulator’s worldwide scenery.
What does Jurassic World: Archipelago add?
The add-on creates a concentrated sightseeing destination based on the fictional islands associated with the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films. Its coverage is built around Isla Nublar and the Muertes Archipelago in the franchise’s Costa Rican setting.
- Custom islands: Handcrafted coastlines, terrain, vegetation and infrastructure replace the otherwise generic representation of the area.
- Recognisable locations: The scenery includes Jurassic-themed buildings, facilities and other visual references intended to be seen from the air.
- Animated dinosaurs: Creatures appear as environmental scenery and animations rather than controllable wildlife or combat targets.
- Low-level flying: Helicopters and slower general-aviation aircraft reveal far more of the detail than an airliner passing overhead.
The islands are fictional, so this is not an accuracy upgrade for real-world Costa Rican geography. It is a licensed interpretation designed around aerial exploration, and users should not expect every film interior or location to function as an explorable game environment.
Is it a standalone Jurassic World game?
No, Jurassic World: Archipelago requires Microsoft Flight Simulator and uses the simulator’s existing aircraft, flight model, weather and controls.
Its main purpose is scenery rather than dinosaur management, survival or action gameplay. You can fly around the islands, inspect landmarks and use suitable landing areas, but the dinosaurs remain part of the environment. Readers unfamiliar with the publisher can see how Orbx products, Orbx Central and scenery dependencies are handled.
Does it work in MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024?
Jurassic World: Archipelago has support for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, but the installed package must match the simulator and platform stated on its listing.
Do not assume that a copy installed for MSFS 2020 will automatically appear in MSFS 2024. On PC, confirm that Orbx Central is targeting the correct simulator library. Marketplace and Orbx-direct purchases are also separate delivery channels unless the applicable listing explicitly says otherwise.
On Xbox or PlayStation 5, the add-on can only be used if a compatible version is offered through that console’s in-simulator Marketplace. Console users cannot install an Orbx Central package or copy files into a Community folder.
How do you install and find the islands?
Install the scenery through the same channel from which it was acquired, then locate its included points of interest or starting positions on the Microsoft Flight Simulator World Map.
- Confirm compatibility: Check that the product names your edition of MSFS and your platform before installing it.
- Use the correct installer: On PC, an Orbx-direct copy is normally handled by Orbx Central. A Marketplace copy is managed by the simulator’s content system.
- Avoid duplicate copies: Do not keep both Marketplace and Orbx Central installations active. Duplicate scenery can produce doubled buildings, conflicting terrain and longer loading times.
- Restart the simulator: After installation or an update, close and reopen MSFS so it rebuilds its active package list.
- Check the World Map: Enable the relevant airport and point-of-interest filters, then use any map references supplied with the product. Our guide to finding airports, landmarks and departure points on the World Map explains the available search and filter tools.
What fixes missing scenery, conflicts or low frame rates?
Most problems come from the wrong simulator library, duplicate installations, overlapping scenery or object-detail settings that are too demanding for the system.
- The default scenery still appears: Verify that the package is installed and enabled for the simulator you actually launched. A common mistake is pointing Orbx Central at an MSFS 2020 library while using MSFS 2024, or the reverse.
- Buildings or terrain are duplicated: Remove the second copy and temporarily disable other packages covering the same area. Our explanation of MSFS scenery priority and conflict management covers this without requiring a complete simulator reinstall.
- The islands load but map markers are absent: Reset the World Map filters and check that points of interest are enabled. A hidden marker does not necessarily mean the scenery itself failed to load.
- Performance drops near the islands: Reduce Terrain Level of Detail and Objects Level of Detail first. Detailed structures, vegetation and animated creatures make this area heavier than ordinary default terrain.
- Problems begin after an update: Update both the add-on and the simulator, restart MSFS and confirm that only one product copy remains active. Reinstall the scenery package before considering a full simulator reinstall.
Clearing the rolling cache may correct stale streamed ground imagery, but it will not repair an add-on installed into the wrong library or resolve two active copies of the same scenery.
