Concentrated instrument coverage

Juneau’s instrument approaches are concentrated on a single runway end, with RNAV (GPS) the only approach type represented. The chart set therefore provides no equivalent published approach coverage for the opposite end or the separate water runway. Departure material includes both a standard departure procedure and an obstacle departure procedure.

Two operating surfaces

The 8,857 ft asphalt runway provides 4,057 ft more available length than the parallel water runway, giving wheeled aircraft substantially more runway distance than water-capable aircraft. The Juneau Sectional supplies the wider VFR context absent from the terminal procedures, including the surrounding area and the relationship to Gustavus, 36 nm west, whose procedure coverage is similar in scale.
