Editorial
As a big fan of aircraft like this, I was instantly drawn to trying this out as it freshened up an old classic and made sure it felt great to fly. This aircraft has been around since the early 70s but even that does not stop it being a whole lot of fun to fly around with. The full model is excellently designed and it flies expertly – but is it enough? Does it feel the way that it should? For me, it certainly does; as a fan of this model for many years, this is a brilliant rendition of a wonderfully created aircraft.
The Model
The model itself is one of the first major factors that got to me. It comes with three models in total, and each part of the fully animated models and liveries is that it manages to include many things that you would hope to se, but rarely do. From taxi and landing lights to a new smoke system, this does a wonderful job of putting together all of the little things that make an aircraft flight as impressive as it possibly can be.
The model carries that attention to detail perfectly, giving you something that is easy to remember and enjoy using. It includes major features and improvements such as opening doors, flaps, spoilers, thrust reverses and many other camera views included along the way to bring it all together and look the part.
Another specific part of the model is the fact that it makes sure it carries all of the hallmarks of the real thing so that it looks brilliant. The design team have really gone out of their way to detail and design the whole thing so that it manages itself in the correct manner as you move forward.
The Performance
The level of performance was another major factor that impressed me. Having been on this very model in the past I was really looking forward to trying it out in a simulator to see how it stacked up to the real thing. I have to say that I was hugely impressed with the attention to detail and precision along the way; it really does a wonderful job of selling the real thing and making it feel the way that it should.
The aircraft has numerous limitations such as turning speed and the like, but that is all relative to the real thing. As far as realism goes, this is the best take on the DC-10-30 that I have tried out for a flight simulator yet.

BRAVO!! EXCELLENT PLANE! It flies smooth as glass whether hand flying or on autopilot. These Swiss DC-10s fly as smooth and responsive as the Boeings (don't EVEN show me an Airbus due to their computer overrides!) The ILS approach settings in IFR conditions work perfectly and guide you down to a feather-soft landing, depending on your manual flight skills. I'm a small single/twin Cessna/Piper/Beech guy but learned to fly these big jets because I figured I'd better at least know how.
Now I'm able to make national/worldwide hops and then switch to my small planes. The textures are just fine--nice moving metallic shine. As for the opening view not showing a panel, just press A on your keyboard. The 737 panel that pops up works just fine. Your thrust lever on your sim yoke OR your joystick operates the three engines as one (same as w/the four 747 engines). If you MUST have a DC-10 panel, keep scrolling and you'll find one in this list. My wish List would be a DC-10 virtual cockpit with the usual standard moving and operating buttons and controls. A 2-D 737 cockpit as the alternative works just fine. Bravo and thank you to the creator of this plane! Oh, and if you want to know, I'm NOT a pilot. The brakes are indeed weak. I touched down on runway 17 at Louisville International, at the normal speed of just under 180 knots, and I nearly used up the entire runway even with spoilers, full flaps, and reverse thrusters. The Boeing 747 stops much sooner. But I expected a slower stopping distance as it is Douglas' version of Boeing's "heavy" wide-body jumbo jet. Definitely not a short-strip aircraft.
It doesn't have textures!
If you could create the same three Swissair liveries again but for the Captain Sim L-1011 (FSX / FSX: Steam Edition, P3D), that would be absolutely awesome!
