What is the best cargo plane in MSFS 2024?

Adam McEnroe
In short

Find the best cargo plane in MSFS 2024 for Career Mode, heavy freight, short strips and long haul, with included and payware picks.

The Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX is the best all-round cargo plane in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. It carries useful loads, handles short and imperfect runways, is manageable for solo pilots and fits Career Mode well. Choose the PMDG 777F for high-fidelity long-haul freight, or the A400M for heavy tactical transport.

Best MSFS 2024 cargo planes by role

No single aircraft wins every cargo job. The right choice depends on runway length, route distance, systems depth and whether you are flying Career Mode or creating freight operations in Free Flight.

The Caravan, A400M, Caribou and BelugaXL require no separate aircraft purchase. Our guide to which cargo-capable aircraft come with the Standard edition shows what else is available in the base package.

Why is the Grand Caravan EX the best all-round cargo plane?

The Grand Caravan occupies the useful middle ground between a small bush plane and a complex transport aircraft. It gives up payload and speed to heavy freighters, but it can serve far more airports without demanding an airliner-sized runway or a lengthy cockpit setup.

  • Runway flexibility: It is comfortable on regional fields and shorter strips where a jet freighter would be unsuitable.
  • Manageable cockpit: Its glass avionics and autopilot reduce workload without removing the hands-on character of a single-engine turboprop.
  • Practical performance: It is fast enough for regional freight while remaining controllable during steep approaches and confined-airfield operations.
  • Career relevance: Cargo missions suit its operating role rather than forcing a passenger aircraft into an artificial freight scenario.

What is the best cargo plane for MSFS 2024 Career Mode?

The Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX is our preferred Career Mode cargo aircraft once the relevant progression, company and mission options are available. It combines useful mission capability with a much lighter workload than a large transport.

Do not confuse an aircraft being included in MSFS 2024 with owning or qualifying to use it in Career Mode. Career Mode has its own certifications, company aircraft and mission eligibility, while third-party freighters do not automatically work with its mission system. Our comparison of Career Mode aircraft and earning roles explains where the Caravan fits.

Mission availability and rewards can also change with location, aircraft condition and simulator balancing. Fixed income-per-hour claims are therefore less useful than choosing an aircraft that consistently receives suitable jobs and can use the available airports.

What is the best heavy cargo plane in MSFS 2024?

The PMDG 777F is the strongest choice for realistic commercial long-haul freight, while the included A400M is better for tactical transport and austere-airfield flying. The BelugaXL is the specialist option for outsize cargo rather than ordinary scheduled freight.

The 777F demands more preparation and systems knowledge than the Caravan. Our comparison of the PMDG 777 passenger and freighter variants helps determine whether that extra complexity suits the flights you want to operate.

Before purchasing any freighter, verify that its listing explicitly supports MSFS 2024 and your platform. PC, Xbox and PlayStation add-on catalogues are not identical, and compatibility with MSFS 2020 does not by itself guarantee complete MSFS 2024 or Career Mode integration.

How do you load cargo without making the aircraft overweight?

Set payload and fuel together in Weight & Balance, then check total weight and centre of gravity before departure. Setting both sliders to maximum is a common mistake because maximum payload usually cannot be carried with full fuel.

  1. Add the payload first: Enter the required load in the available cargo or cabin stations rather than placing everything in one station.
  2. Add fuel for the route: Carry the trip fuel and a sensible reserve instead of filling every tank automatically.
  3. Check the limits: Keep take-off weight below the displayed maximum and ensure the centre-of-gravity marker remains inside its permitted envelope.
  4. Allow for the runway: A legal weight may still be too heavy for a short, wet, hot or high-altitude departure.

Visible crates, pallets or open cargo doors do not necessarily change aircraft weight. In Free Flight, the payload stations control the simulated mass; cargo models and loading animations depend on the aircraft. In Career Mode, use the mission's loading workflow so the cargo and objectives register correctly.
