Which brand makes the better yoke and throttle?

CH is better for a compact, straightforward yoke installation; Logitech/Saitek is better if you want a separate, repositionable throttle quadrant and room to expand.

Control feel is subjective. A distinct centre notch and uneven pitch resistance are common complaints with Logitech/Saitek yokes, particularly as a unit wears. CH yokes can feel light and their compact geometry is unlike a full-size aircraft yoke. Neither provides the travel or loading of a professional control column.

Are CH or Logitech pedals and HOTAS controls better?

Logitech/Saitek usually offers the more flexible pedal and HOTAS selection, while CH suits pilots who prefer separate, understated components.

CH Pro Pedals are relatively narrow and have a noticeable centring mechanism. They fit beneath smaller desks, but the close spacing may be uncomfortable for pilots who prefer a wider stance. Many Logitech/Saitek pedal models provide wider spacing and adjustable resistance. Common USB versions from both brands include differential toe-brake axes.

For combat and space simulation, CH sticks and throttles work as separate components and are a good fit when rudder pedals are already available. Logitech's X52 and X56 systems provide an integrated HOTAS arrangement with more prominent rotaries, switches and twist-rudder control. The extra features are useful, but they also create more switches, wiring and axes to inspect when buying used.

Do CH and Logitech controls work together?

Yes. Windows and PC simulators normally detect CH and Logitech devices as separate USB controllers, so a CH pedal set can be used with a Logitech yoke, throttle or joystick.

The mistake we see constantly is leaving the same axis assigned on both devices. If the yoke and joystick both control pitch and roll, or two throttle levers are mapped to the same engine, the simulator receives conflicting inputs. Which has better Windows and simulator compatibility?

USB models from both brands work with major PC simulators, including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, X-Plane, Prepar3D and FSX, although preset quality varies and manual assignments are often necessary.

CH Control Manager is optional for ordinary axis and button bindings. On Windows 10 or 11, direct simulator assignments are often simpler than relying on an old profile, especially if Control Manager creates virtual-device or detection problems. Logitech radio, multi and switch panels are different from ordinary joysticks: their displays and specialised controls may require the appropriate simulator integration software. A panel lighting up does not prove that its display or selector functions are configured.

Older CH hardware with a gameport connector should not be confused with later USB versions. On Xbox or PlayStation 5, assume neither company's PC USB hardware will work unless the exact model is explicitly supported by both the simulator and console platform; a compatible plug alone is not enough.

What should you check when buying used controls?

Condition matters more than the badge on ageing CH or Logitech/Saitek hardware. Check these points before treating a low price as a bargain:

  • Connector type: confirm that a CH controller is the USB version rather than an older gameport model.
  • Throttle-quadrant connection: some Logitech/Saitek quadrants bundled with a yoke use a round connector and depend on that yoke. A separately sold USB quadrant is not the same version.
  • Axis stability: open joy.cpl in Windows and move every axis slowly through its full range. Jumping or flickering input usually indicates potentiometer wear; calibration will not repair electrical noise.
  • Yoke movement: check for sticking, scraping, an off-centre shaft or different resistance in each direction.
  • Included hardware: missing clamps, cables or power supplies can make an otherwise functional unit difficult to install.

So, which should you choose?

Choose CH Products when durability, uncomplicated USB controls and a compact civil or component-based setup matter more than modern styling. Choose Logitech/Saitek when you want a matched yoke-and-quadrant system, an X-series HOTAS, wider pedal choices or cockpit panels.
