To disable the Driver’s Safety Device (DSD) in Train Simulator Classic, activate the driving cab and press Ctrl+D once; compatible locomotives normally display a confirmation. The command is a toggle, so a second press turns it back on. Scripted add-ons may instead require an in-cab DSD isolation switch or locomotive-specific command.
How do I turn off DSD with the keyboard?
The standard Train Simulator Classic command for toggling the core driver-vigilance system is Ctrl+D.
- Activate the driving cab: complete enough of the locomotive’s startup procedure for its controls to respond. Doing this while stationary avoids an unexpected brake application.
- Press
Ctrl+Donce: do not hold the keys or repeat the shortcut. - Check for confirmation: core-compatible locomotives usually show a brief message indicating that driver vigilance or DSD has been disabled.
- Test the correct system: the absence of a warning sound alone is not proof, because DSD behaviour varies between locomotives.

Why does Ctrl+D not disable the DSD?
If Ctrl+D produces no message or change, the locomotive probably uses a custom script rather than Train Simulator Classic’s core DSD command.

Can DSD be disabled globally?
There is no single setting guaranteed to disable DSD across every Train Simulator Classic locomotive.
If the gameplay settings in your installation include a Driver Vigilance option, switching it off can control locomotives that use the simulator’s standard implementation. Scripted DLC and enhanced stock may ignore that preference, store their own state or enable DSD again whenever a scenario starts.
Why does the alarm continue after DSD is disabled?
An alarm after confirmed DSD isolation usually belongs to another train-protection system.
- AWS reacts to track equipment and signal aspects; disabling DSD does not disable AWS.
- TPWS can generate a brake demand following an overspeed or signal-related intervention.
- SIFA is a separate vigilance system fitted to many German locomotives and has its own controls.
- Custom vigilance systems may use a pedal, acknowledgement button or add-on-specific shortcut instead of the core DSD command.
