To reverse or swap controller axes in a general flight simulator, open the active controller profile. For an inverted control, select its analogue axis and enable Reverse or Invert. Do I need to reverse the axis or swap the binding?
Reverse an axis when it operates the correct control in the wrong direction; swap or rebind it when the physical control operates the wrong function.

How do I reverse an inverted controller axis?
The exact menu names differ, but most simulators place inversion in the controller profile, sensitivity page or axis-tuning panel.
- Select the correct device and profile. Simulators often maintain separate profiles for a joystick, throttle, pedals and gamepad. Some also have aircraft-specific profiles that override a general one.
- Check the raw input. On PC, test the joystick movement in Windows to confirm that the axis travels smoothly through its full range. On a console, use the simulator's input or sensitivity display if one is available.
- Find the analogue command. Move the control and use input detection where supported. Choose a command containing
Axis, such asElevator Axis, rather than digital commands such asElevator UporElevator Down. - Enable Reverse or Invert. Apply it only to the affected axis. The option may be beside the binding or inside an axis-curve panel.
- Check the full range. Move the controller from stop to stop and verify its centre position. Reversing changes direction; it does not repair a dead zone, spike or incomplete range.
- Save and test the profile. Confirm the result in the cockpit before changing any other axes.
How do I swap pitch, roll, rudder or throttle axes?
To swap axes, delete the incorrect bindings first and then assign each control by moving it, rather than trusting an unfamiliar X, Y, Z or rotation label.
- Clear both mistaken assignments. Adding the correct binding without removing the old one can leave two commands attached to the same movement.
- Bind the primary flight controls. Use the simulator's input-detection function where possible.
- Check every connected device. A gamepad, throttle quadrant or second joystick may carry an automatic default assignment that conflicts with the new profile.
- Test one axis at a time. Centre the other controls while moving the axis under test so the simulator does not detect the wrong device.

Should I reverse the axis in Windows or in the simulator?
Use the simulator's Reverse or Invert option in most cases because it affects only that simulator profile and can be changed for a particular aircraft. Windows calibration should correct centre and travel problems, not decide which aircraft command an axis controls.
Use the controller manufacturer's software only when the simulator has no inversion option or when every application needs the same change. Do not invert the axis in both the controller software and the simulator: the two reversals cancel each other and make diagnosis needlessly difficult.
Why is the axis still reversed or controlling two things?
A persistent axis problem usually comes from a second binding, the wrong profile or an unsuitable command type.
- Duplicate assignments: inspect each connected controller separately. Default profiles often bind rudder, throttle or camera movement to more than one device.
- Wrong profile: confirm that the edited profile is active for the aircraft being flown. Per-aircraft presets can override a global profile.
- Digital commands: remove button-style increase, decrease, up or down commands accidentally assigned to an analogue lever.
- Double inversion: restore one layer to normal if both the controller utility and simulator are reversing the same input.
- Autopilot or assistance: disconnect the autopilot and temporarily disable control assistance if the cockpit controls fight a correctly mapped input.

How can I confirm the axes are correct?
Test the aircraft while parked and verify each command independently: pulling the stick back should command nose-up, moving it right should command right roll, pressing the right rudder pedal should command right yaw, and advancing the throttle should increase power.
External control-surface movement can be misleading on aircraft with hydraulic, fly-by-wire or control-mixing systems, especially while unpowered. In those aircraft, confirm the cockpit control animation and the simulator's input indicator as well as the outside surfaces.
