Concentrated instrument coverage

The five instrument approach charts serve only two of the airport’s four runway ends, concentrating instrument coverage rather than spreading it across both alignments. ILS and localiser procedures sit alongside RNAV (GPS) and VOR choices, so the set is not limited to a single approach type. Runway length is notably uneven: 09/27 provides 4,774 ft more than 03/21. Any aircraft requiring more than 5,228 ft is therefore limited to 09/27 on runway length alone.

VFR context

The Cheyenne and Salt Lake City sectional charts place Southwest Wyoming Regional in a broader visual and geographical setting than the airport diagram and terminal procedure sheets provide. Together they give overlapping VFR coverage of Rock Springs from two sectional products.

Common questions about KRKS

What charts are available for KRKS?

8 current FAA charts for Southwest Wyoming Rgnl, including 5 instrument approachs, 1 airport diagram. All are free to download as PDFs from this page, from the 6 August 2026 cycle.

What are the radio frequencies for KRKS?

CTAF 122.8. Full civil VHF list, with sector notes, is in the frequencies table on this page — from the FAA NASR subscription.

How long is the runway at KRKS?

Southwest Wyoming Rgnl has 2 runways. The longest is 09/27 at 10,002 ft by 150 ft, asphalt. Full runway dimensions, lighting and approach aids are listed on this page.

Does KRKS have an ILS approach?

Yes — 1 ILS procedure is published. In total KRKS has 5 published instrument approaches, of which 2 are RNAV (GPS).

Where can I download the KRKS airport diagram?

The official FAA airport diagram for Southwest Wyoming Rgnl is free to download at the top of this page. It shows runways, taxiways, ramp layout and hold-short positions, and is reissued every 28 days.

How high is KRKS?

The field elevation is 6,764 ft. At that height the air is thin enough to matter: take-off and landing distances are longer than the same aircraft would need at sea level, and the effect worsens as temperature rises. The approach charts carry the altitudes that apply.

Is KRKS a towered airport?

No — Southwest Wyoming Rgnl has no control tower. Traffic co-ordinates on a common frequency rather than with a controller, which is listed in the frequencies table on this page.

Are these KRKS charts current?

They are from the FAA cycle effective 6 August 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. We publish each new cycle on its effective date. They are for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.
