From the Rockies to the High Plains

Southern and central Wyoming form the core of this sheet, with coverage stretching west into eastern Utah and east across the Nebraska Panhandle to central South Dakota and Nebraska. Its southern margin takes in northern Colorado and a narrow part of northern Kansas. The landscape changes markedly across the chart: rugged Rocky Mountain terrain and broad intermontane basins give way to rolling plains, while the Black Hills provide a distinct upland area in the north-east.

Connections around the sheet

Routes continuing west pass onto the Salt Lake City chart, while Omaha carries coverage east across the Plains. Billings adjoins to the north and Denver to the south-west, with Wichita covering the south-east continuation. At the corners, Great Falls lies north-west and Twin Cities north-east. These joins make the Cheyenne sheet particularly useful for routes crossing Wyoming or transitioning between the central Rockies and the open country of Nebraska and South Dakota.

Common questions

What area does the Cheyenne Sectional Chart cover?

It spans 39.8°N to 44.6°N and 110.2°W to 100.6°W. Airports on the sheet fall within Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. The full list of public-use airports within its coverage is on this page.

Should I download the GeoTIFF or the PDF?

Take the GeoTIFF if you are loading the chart into moving-map software or a flight planner — it is georeferenced, so the software can place it correctly on a map, and it ships with a world file and FGDC metadata at 300 dpi (74.0 MB). Take the PDF to print it or read it on a second screen (153.2 MB); it is the same chart without georeferencing.

Is this the current Cheyenne chart?

This is the FAA edition effective 9 July 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. Visual charts are reissued every 56 days and we publish each new edition on the day it takes effect. It is for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.

Which charts adjoin the Cheyenne sheet?

Omaha to the east, Salt Lake City to the west, Billings to the north, Wichita to the south-east, Denver to the south-west and Great Falls to the north-west. Each is linked from this page, so a route running off one edge can be continued on the next sheet.

Is the Cheyenne Sectional Chart free to download?

Yes, with no account required. FAA charts are United States Government works and are not subject to copyright protection in the US under 17 U.S.C. § 105. Guest downloads are speed-capped, so a sheet this size takes a while; PRO members download at full line speed and can take the whole family as one archive.
