Instrument coverage concentrated on one runway end

Friedman Memorial’s three approaches all serve the same end of runway 13/31, leaving the reciprocal end without a published instrument approach. Two RNAV (GPS) procedures provide the principal satellite-based coverage, supplemented by a single NDB approach. The 7,550 ft runway offers substantial length, but its single alignment means the procedure set provides no alternative runway direction.

Nearby chart coverage

None of the nearby fields has chart coverage as broad as SUN’s. Jerome County comes closest with five published charts, followed by Gooding Municipal with four, while Arco-Butte County has the thinnest set at three. The Salt Lake City Sectional adds the wider VFR planning context around Hailey that the airport-specific terminal procedures do not show.

Common questions about KSUN

What charts are available for KSUN?

9 current FAA charts for Friedman Meml, including 3 instrument approachs, 1 departure procedure, 1 arrival procedure, 1 airport diagram. All are free to download as PDFs from this page, from the 6 August 2026 cycle.

What are the radio frequencies for KSUN?

Ground 121.7; ATIS 128.225; CTAF 125.6; UNICOM 122.95. Full civil VHF list, with sector notes, is in the frequencies table on this page — from the FAA NASR subscription.

How long is the runway at KSUN?

Friedman Meml has 1 runway. The longest is 13/31 at 7,550 ft by 100 ft, asphalt. Full runway dimensions, lighting and approach aids are listed on this page.

Does KSUN have an ILS approach?

No ILS is published. In total KSUN has 3 published instrument approaches, of which 2 are RNAV (GPS).

Where can I download the KSUN airport diagram?

The official FAA airport diagram for Friedman Meml is free to download at the top of this page. It shows runways, taxiways, ramp layout and hold-short positions, and is reissued every 28 days.

Which runway do instrument approaches serve at KSUN?

Every published approach serves one runway end. There is no instrument procedure to the reciprocal direction, so an arrival in instrument conditions commits to that single approach direction regardless of the wind.

How high is KSUN?

The field elevation is 5,319 ft. At that height the air is thin enough to matter: take-off and landing distances are longer than the same aircraft would need at sea level, and the effect worsens as temperature rises. The approach charts carry the altitudes that apply.

Is KSUN a towered airport?

Yes. Friedman Meml has an operating control tower, within Salt Lake City Center's airspace. Tower, ground and clearance frequencies are listed on this page.

Are these KSUN charts current?

They are from the FAA cycle effective 6 August 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. We publish each new cycle on its effective date. They are for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.
