Approach coverage

Yellowstone’s three approach plates serve both ends of its sole 8,400 ft runway. The procedures combine ILS and localiser guidance with two RNAV (GPS) approaches, giving each runway direction published instrument coverage despite the compact chart set. The single 01/19 alignment means there is no second runway orientation. No airport diagram is published, so the procedure set does not add a dedicated ground-layout chart.

Nearby and VFR coverage

Nearby chart coverage is closely matched rather than sharply divided: Ennis Big Sky has the same number of charts, Driggs/Reed Memorial has one more, and Rexburg-Madison County one fewer. The Great Falls Sectional supplies the broader visual-navigation context that the airport-specific instrument procedures do not provide.

Common questions about KWYS

What charts are available for KWYS?

5 current FAA charts for Yellowstone, including 3 instrument approachs. All are free to download as PDFs from this page, from the 6 August 2026 cycle.

What are the radio frequencies for KWYS?

CTAF 123.0. Full civil VHF list, with sector notes, is in the frequencies table on this page — from the FAA NASR subscription.

How long is the runway at KWYS?

Yellowstone has 1 runway. The longest is 01/19 at 8,400 ft by 150 ft, asphalt. Full runway dimensions, lighting and approach aids are listed on this page.

Does KWYS have an ILS approach?

Yes — 1 ILS procedure is published. In total KWYS has 3 published instrument approaches, of which 2 are RNAV (GPS).

How high is KWYS?

The field elevation is 6,649 ft. At that height the air is thin enough to matter: take-off and landing distances are longer than the same aircraft would need at sea level, and the effect worsens as temperature rises. The approach charts carry the altitudes that apply.

Is KWYS a towered airport?

No — Yellowstone has no control tower. Traffic co-ordinates on a common frequency rather than with a controller, which is listed in the frequencies table on this page.

Are these KWYS charts current?

They are from the FAA cycle effective 6 August 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. We publish each new cycle on its effective date. They are for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.
