This freeware repaint showcases a VASP livery for the Overland SMS McDonnell Douglas MD-11 (version 2.0) within Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Created by Jim Waters, this package requires the original MD-11 base model from the Fly Away Simulation mod library. It delivers a carefully textured exterior reflecting VASP’s brand style and ensures compatibility with the Virtual Cockpit functionality. The steps below describe how to integrate this repaint into your existing aircraft folder, as well as how to configure your aircraft.cfg file to recognize the added texture.

Special Livery Attributes for the MD-11

The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 is recognized for its tri-jet design, extended wingspan, and modernized avionics based on its DC-10 predecessor. This repaint captures the particular coloration and markings identified with VASP, a former Brazilian airline (Viacao Aerea Sao Paulo) that once offered both domestic and international services. Through these updated textures, your simulator will depict subtle logo placements and detailed alignment on the aircraft’s fuselage and tail sections.

Texture Incorporation in FS2004

  • Obtain and install the SMS Overland MD-11 base model (version 2.0) featuring a Virtual Cockpit.
  • Unzip the provided files to a temporary folder on your system.
  • Locate the existing texture folder for the MD-11 or create a new directory named “texture.VASP” (or any custom name).
  • Copy the furnished files from this repaint package into the target texture folder. Overwrite if prompted.

Aircraft Configuration Adjustments

To ensure the simulator recognizes these new textures, add a corresponding entry in the aircraft.cfg file located within the MD-11 aircraft directory. The example entry below demonstrates how to map the new livery:

[fltsim.X]
title=FSP Advanced Products MD-11 VASP
sim=md11
model=vc
panel=
sound=
texture=VASP
atc_id=VASP
atc_airline=VASP
atc_flight_number=922
ui_manufacturer=Boeing/McDonnell-Douglas
ui_type=McDonnell Douglas MD-11
ui_variation=VASP V2 No VC
description=Overland Co.,Ltd. Products --- McDonnell Douglas MD-11

L1 L2 Cabin Door [Shift+E] then [1]
Cargo Door [Shift+E] then [2]
L4/R4 Cabin Door Wing Fold/Extend

Replace X with the next sequential number in your [fltsim] list. For instance, if the first paint entry is [fltsim.0], the second is [fltsim.1], and so on. The texture= parameter must match the newly created folder’s name (e.g., Texture=VASP).

Additional Considerations

When adding more liveries, be sure to repeat the process and create unique fltsim entries for each new texture folder. This repaint remains a separate add-on and does not alter any core files beyond the texture sets within the MD-11’s directory. All credit goes to Jim Waters for designing these textures, which are offered as a standalone addition for enthusiasts.

Enjoy exploring the skies in this VASP-themed tri-jet as you replicate real-world or custom flight plans within Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.
