FS2004 ALFA Chile Curtiss C-46C Commando

ALFA Chile’s Curtiss C-46C Commando livery brings a convincing vintage workhorse to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, with crisp airline markings, nuanced panel lines, and textures tuned to preserve the aircraft’s classic contours. It requires JR Lucariny’s freeware C-46 base model and suits cargo or passenger routes in demanding terrain.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004

This freeware repaint recreates the Curtiss C-46C Commando in ALFA Chile’s historic markings, optimized for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. It offers a layered, authentic look for simmers seeking an older turboprop alternative that once served both cargo and passenger routes under challenging operational conditions.

Special Attributes of ALFA Chile’s Curtiss C-46C

Robust Airframe: The real-world Curtiss C-46C Commando was noted for its twin radial engines and substantial payload capacity, allowing it to operate on shorter airstrips common throughout mountainous regions of South America. With this repaint, the striking ALFA Chile exterior accents the aircraft’s storied engineering.

Accurate Visual Enhancements: Repainted by Osvaldo Martinez, this livery showcases minute details such as varied panel lines and distinctive airline markings. Each texture pack is carefully adjusted to highlight fuselage contours and maintain the aircraft’s classic silhouette.

Fully Integrated Textures: This modification aligns seamlessly with JR Lucariny’s freeware base model (not included). When used together, the aircraft’s fuselage and control surfaces blend with the upgraded paint scheme for an immersive experience in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.

Panel & Installation Procedures

Recommended Panel Setup: Although compatible with the default panel, a customized cockpit interface from c46.zip is advised for a more realistic environment. Edits bundled with the repaint package help fine-tune instrumentation, improving overall flight handling.

Texture Folder Placement: After extracting the repaint files, move the texture folder labeled “ALFA” into your existing C-46 aircraft directory. Confirm the folder structure matches the original layout for proper texture loading.

Additional Aircraft Configuration

In your aircraft’s configuration file (included with c-46_com.zip), place the following entry to activate the repaint:

[fltsim.x]
title=Curtiss C-46 ALFA CHILE
sim=C46come
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=ALFA
kb_checklists=
ui_manufacturer=Curtiss
ui_type=C-46C
ui_variation=ALFA CHILE
atc_heavy=0
atc_id=CC-CAM
atc_airline=ALFA
atc_flight_number=46
description=Model by JR Lucariny. Repainted by Osvaldo Martinez

Replace “[fltsim.x]” with the next sequential number in your aircraft.cfg. Once saved, load the simulator to ensure the new ALFA Chile repaint is selectable from the aircraft library.

This repaint pack is textures-only. To enjoy the full package, you will also need to download the freeware base model found in the Fly Away Simulation mod library. Once correctly installed, venture through a range of short-haul cargo missions or passenger flights across Latin America, replicating the role of ALFA Chile’s Curtiss C-46C Commando.

How to install this mod

FS2004 add-on
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place files per readme

    FS2004 add-ons go into FS9\Aircraft\, FS9\Addon Scenery\, FS9\Gauges\, or FS9\Effects\.
  3. Always read the included readme

    Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
