FSX Performance Autogen Textures For Europe

European and general autogen building textures are downscaled from 1024x1024 to 512x512 with mipmaps, cutting file size from about 638 KB to 170 KB per texture for quicker loading. In FSX, the result is smoother high-speed scenery streaming and potential FPS gains on slower PCs with minimal visual change above roughly 250 feet.

The original autogen building textures are 638 kb. These textures are reduced in size to 170 kb. Instead of 1024x1024 mipmapped the size is now 512x512 mipmapped. Included all European en general autogen building textures. By Gerard Salden.

When you fly at higher levels than 250 ft it is almost not noticeable that these are reduced textures. On slower pc's these textures can give you some extra fps. On faster pc's you might not win extra fps but the flying at higher speeds will be smoother (faster loading times).

Install:

  • Make a backup of your main Texture folder and keep it in a safe place.
  • After that copy all files into the main Texture folder.

FSX / P3D add-on

  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.

  2. Place files per the readme

    Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.
