This fictional repaint adds a Trans-Australia Airlines (TAA) theme to the payware A2A Simulations Boeing 377 Stratocruiser for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It features custom external textures by Sean Doran, reflecting how the aircraft might have looked had TAA operated the post-war Stratocruiser design.

Background on the Boeing 377 Series

Boeing 377 Stratocruiser refers to a large, four-engined propeller airliner that evolved from Boeing's military C-97. It first flew in the late 1940s, offering a spacious double-deck cabin and pressurization for high-altitude flight. Though Pan American World Airways historically pioneered its commercial use, this repaint envisions a “what-if” scenario for TAA (Trans-Australia Airlines) service across Australia and beyond.

Highlights of the Fictional TAA Livery

  • Custom Markings: Depicts TAA-specific tail and fuselage branding in line with classic airline design language.
  • High-Resolution Textures: Created with attention to period-inspired fonts and paint patterns.
  • Realistic Weathering: Subtle layers of metallic wear to capture the characteristic sheen of older, late-1940s to mid-1950s aircraft skins.

Installation and Configuration

Begin by placing the extracted texture folder in the main Boeing 377 directory. Typically, this resides under:

  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\WoS_B377

Afterwards, locate your aircraft.CFG file in that folder and append the entry below, modifying [fltsim.x] so it follows the next sequential number in your configuration.

description=On November 28, 1945 Pan American placed an order for 20 Boeing 377s, becoming the launch customer for this post-war airliner. Though initial plans targeted a 1946 service entry, lengthy certification postponed operations until 1949. The third prototype, B-377 NX1024V, first flew on October 7, 1948 and received the name Clipper America, although it was the second example from Pan American to carry that title. Meanwhile, the earlier Clipper America was rebranded as Clipper Golden Gate. On June 12, 1949, NX1024V joined Pan American as N1024V (Clipper Bald Eagle), then underwent conversion to the Super Stratocruiser standard and was redesignated Clipper Cathay for trans-Pacific routes. Eventually, Aero Spacelines acquired N1024V and transformed it into a Pregnant Guppy. This texture set imagines a TAA variation of the Stratocruiser.
