This freeware package features an authentic Olympic Airlines Airbus A320-200 (registration SX-OAT) meticulously repainted by Mathieu Vos (APSS) on the well-regarded Project Airbus base model. Created for users of Microsoft Flight Simulator X, it provides a comprehensive set of animations and improvements that accurately reflect the operational details of the real-world aircraft while showcasing the distinct Olympic Airlines livery once seen across the Greek skies.
Historical Perspective of the Airline and Aircraft
Olympic Airlines, a longstanding Greek carrier, was notable for its iconic ringed tail emblem and legacy routes across Europe and beyond. Its Airbus A320 fleet was favored for short- to medium-haul services, with the A320’s fly-by-wire system offering advanced flight control and reliable performance. This repaint captures the SX-OAT variant, reflecting the crisp details and branding that adorned the real aircraft.
Key Technical Highlights
Advanced Animation and Modeling
The Project Airbus model, included in this download, incorporates custom-coded functionality for idle-reversers, adding extra realism to ground handling sequences. The developers also implemented animated pack vents and a pressurization outflow valve, both of which respond dynamically under varying flight conditions.
Refined Wingflex and Structural Details
The revised wingflex logic reacts to ground spoilers, fuel distribution, and angle-of-attack inputs. Moreover, the improved control surface droop replicates a realistic appearance when the engines are off, with the rudder’s resting position lightly influenced by prevailing winds. The wing and engine components also exhibit enriched textures and a more pronounced shine in different lighting environments.
Custom Flight and Engine Effects
In addition to the idle-reverser behavior, the engine fan textures have been refined to become partly see-through at higher RPM, and you can spot distinctly modeled internal engine components from external viewpoints. The aircraft features full double strobe lighting, and the nose wheel steering logic has been adjusted with unique programming to enhance taxi realism.
