Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

This freeware package introduces specialized camera perspectives for the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 developed by Premier Aircraft Design, specifically designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator X enthusiasts looking for enhanced vantage points. Theseviewpoints encompass detailed external angles and refined cockpit perspectives created by Marc Renaud, allowing users to explore every corner of this versatile regional turboprop aircraft in a natural, immersive way. Below, you will find key implementation steps, technical explanations, and helpful pointers to get started quickly.

Extended Exterior Perspectives

These refined camera definitions provide six newly oriented exterior viewpoints that highlight critical sections of the Dash 8 Q400. By placing the virtual camera near the wings, engine nacelles, and tail assembly, these vantage points give enthusiasts a more comprehensive look at the airframe. This aircraft, known worldwide for its efficient operation on short routes, benefits significantly from these extended viewpoints, making it easier to observe control surfaces and landing gear mechanics.

Virtual Cockpit Enhancements

Alongside the exterior angles, five cockpit-focused viewpoints are introduced. Each camera is positioned to highlight the flight deck environment, from the pilot’s seat to overhead panel details. With these newly added angles, it becomes easier to keep track of instruments, switches, and annunciators, all while retaining a consistent sense of immersion.

Detailed Configuration Steps

  1. When installing, ensure that the currently loaded aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator X is not the Dash 8 Q400 that is being modified.
  2. Create a backup of the existing aircraft.cfg file for safety.
  3. Locate and remove the original [Views] section in the aircraft.cfg file.
  4. Open the provided camera definitions.txt file from Marc Renaud.
  5. Copy all newly supplied camera definitions, including the fresh [Views] section.
  6. Paste this content into the aircraft.cfg file, preferably at the bottom, then save.
  7. Open Microsoft Flight Simulator X, or if it’s already running, simply switch to the updated Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 to see the new viewpoints in action.

Mouse-Panning Recommendations

For a more fluid experience when examining the fuselage or cockpit layout, SHIFT + O (letter O) activates panning with the mouse. Temporarily focus on any specific area by pressing the SPACE BAR. Once done, use CTRL + SPACE BAR to reset the camera to its default orientation. Move the mouse cursor slowly, as it is far more sensitive than a typical joystick hat switch.

Optional Camera Visibility

To customize view cycling, change the CycleHidden=NO parameter to YES in any camera definition. Doing so excludes that particular angle without permanently removing it, maintaining flexibility if your preferences change over time.

All modifications come without any warranty. Though issues are highly unlikely, they are installed at the user’s own risk. Neither the authors (Premier Aircraft Design and Marc Renaud) nor the hosting website will be held liable for potential disruptions to your system or simulator.
