Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona, serves as a prominent training hub for modern fighter pilots, and this freeware release, authored by Jim Cook, brings a more detailed look and feel to the default Microsoft Flight Simulator X location. Expect numerous enhancements, including additional cargo and combat parking spots, revamped taxiways, and newly placed ground equipment for a more dynamic environment.
Upgraded Infrastructure and Detailed Elements
When refining Luke AFB, the focus remained on achieving accuracy that aligns closely with publicly available aerodrome data. The overhaul includes a newly adjusted fire station complemented by fire trucks, plus a helipad with suitable approach paths. The addition of military trucks, tractor trailers, and forklifts contributes to a busy flight-line ambiance.
Parking Expansion and Airside Operations
Extra Military_Cargo and Military_Combat parking codes keep traffic organized while accommodating a wider variety of aircraft. The parking areas have been fine-tuned so that ground assets and maintenance activities look natural during flight operations.
Reshaped Taxiways and Aprons
Many ramps and taxiways received alignment adjustments, ensuring compatibility with real-world positions and facilitating smooth handling for jets. These modifications also help traffic flows remain efficient during busy sorties and flight maneuvers.
Recommended Additions and Compatibility
Although this scenery remains fully functional on its own—relying solely on default Microsoft Flight Simulator X objects—some flight simulation enthusiasts choose to integrate Ray Smith’s Phoenix Sky Harbor AFCAD file for an even more immersive regional experience. Users of Ultimate Terrain and FSGenesis landclass can also benefit from enhanced terrain fidelity, though these items are not mandatory. Those who operate Just Flight's Military Plus Packs will find their AI traffic suitably accommodated on the base.
Installation Procedure
To begin, extract AFX_KLUF_JC.bgl and KLUF_JC.bgl into the “Addon Scenery/Scenery” folder within your simulator setup. Afterward, simply restart FSX so that the new content takes effect.
All adjustments in this release were crafted with Flight 1’s AFX utility and Instant Scenery. Jim Cook intends to produce similar reworks of additional military airfields whenever time allows.
