For general flight simulation on PC, the Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus Edition is the best complete Airbus-style joystick and throttle set: it combines a sidestick, twin-engine quadrant, thrust detents, reversers and auxiliary controls. Choose the Captain Pack X for supported Xbox consoles; fixed-cockpit builders should consider full-size replica hardware.
That recommendation suits Airbus flying in Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane, Prepar3D and FSX. The hardware is styled around the A320 family, but the basic pitch, roll and throttle axes also work with other Airbus types and conventional aircraft.

Force feedback is not automatically more authentic: an Airbus sidestick does not move with the autopilot and is not mechanically back-driven by the other pilot’s stick.
Is the TCA Captain Pack better than the Officer Pack?
The Captain Pack is better for a dedicated Airbus desk because it adds the quadrant extension modules; the Officer Pack provides the essential sidestick and twin-engine throttle in a smaller package.
The extension modules give you physical speed-brake and flap levers plus controls such as landing gear and parking brake. They remove frequent mouse work during take-off and landing, although individual switches may still need manual assignment in complex aircraft.
Choose the Officer Pack if space is tight or you want to add modules later. Choose the Captain Pack if the A320 family is your main aircraft and you want the closest complete desktop layout. How do you calibrate Airbus throttle detents?
Calibrate the full physical range first, then align IDLE, CL, FLEX/MCT and TOGA inside the aircraft’s own calibration system when it provides one.
- Remove duplicate assignments. Check every connected controller for unwanted throttle bindings. Automatic profiles commonly assign the same axis to a joystick slider and the quadrant, causing jumping or uncommanded thrust.
- Check the raw axes. Confirm that both levers move smoothly from minimum to maximum in the manufacturer’s control panel or the operating system’s controller test. Fix reversed axes before adjusting detents.
- Bind analogue axes. Use throttle-axis assignments rather than increase/decrease commands. Bind each engine separately when the simulator and aircraft support it.
- Set the detent zones. Use the aircraft’s EFB, tablet or configuration utility where available. Leave a small tolerance around each physical detent so minor sensor movement does not make the virtual lever flicker between CL and FLEX/MCT.
- Configure reverse once. Some aircraft treat reverse as part of the throttle axis; others use a separate button or lever command. Binding both methods together can produce stuck reverse thrust or an idle position that never settles.

Rudder pedals and the next useful upgrades
Rudder pedals are not mandatory, but they provide better taxi control, crosswind correction and differential braking than the sidestick’s twist axis.
- First priority: sidestick and twin-engine throttle quadrant.
- Second priority: pedals with independent toe-brake axes.
- Third priority: flap, speed-brake, gear and parking-brake modules.
- For a fixed cockpit: an FCU/autopilot panel and MCDU are usually more useful than replacing a working sidestick with a cosmetically superior one.
After adding pedals, disable or lock the twist-rudder axis so both devices cannot command the rudder simultaneously. The same duplicate-axis check applies to toe brakes, which are a common cause of brakes activating during take-off.
Will Airbus controls work on PC, Xbox and PS5?
PC offers the broadest compatibility; consoles require hardware explicitly approved for that platform, and a USB connection alone does not guarantee support.
- PC: Separate USB devices can usually be mixed, allowing a TCA sidestick, another manufacturer’s throttle and independent pedals to operate together.
- Xbox: Buy the specifically labelled TCA Captain Pack X or another Xbox-supported controller. Do not assume the standard PC TCA package will work merely because the products look identical.
- PlayStation 5: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is available on PS5, but that does not make PC- or Xbox-labelled flight controls compatible. Use only hardware explicitly documented for PS5 and the simulator.
A320 controls versus four-engine Airbus aircraft
A twin-lever quadrant is ideal for the A320, A330 and A350 when each lever controls one engine. An A340 or A380 can map multiple engines to each lever, but independent control of all four engines requires four throttle axes—often a second quadrant on PC—and support from the simulator and aircraft add-on.
Detent positions can also differ slightly between aircraft implementations. Treat the physical labels as reference points, then calibrate them in each high-fidelity add-on rather than assuming one global profile will match every Airbus.
