For airline flying, a detailed airport may make a larger practical difference than a second skyline pack. Choose KJFK for long-haul operations, KLGA for close-in Manhattan departures and arrivals, KEWR for approaches west of the city, or KTEB for business aviation. Install only one rendition of each airport.

Do you need photogrammetry enabled for New York scenery?
Usually, yes: keep online data, Bing world data and photogrammetry enabled unless the add-on's instructions explicitly recommend another configuration. The exact menu grouping differs between Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024.
Custom landmarks may remain sharp while the streamed buildings around them look melted or fail to resolve. That points to photogrammetry streaming, a data limit or a damaged rolling cache; a landmark package cannot repair low-resolution streamed scenery across the entire city.
- Check online data first. Confirm that online functionality, Bing data and photogrammetry are active and that no data limit has stopped streaming.
- Install required world content. If the package lists a free world update or base-scenery dependency, make sure it is installed.
- Rebuild the rolling cache only when needed. Clear or recreate it when the same areas repeatedly load incorrectly after an update; doing this before every flight achieves nothing.
- Tune the relevant settings. If New York stutters while the rest of the sim is smooth, reduce object or terrain level of detail and dense road or AI traffic. Lowering texture resolution is less useful when the main thread is the limiting factor.
Can you combine multiple NYC scenery add-ons?
You can combine a city pack, one airport per ICAO and isolated landmarks, but only when they do not replace the same objects or terrain. Add packages one at a time so the source of a conflict remains obvious.
- Start with the default city. Temporarily disable every New York add-on and confirm that the base scenery loads properly.
- Enable one citywide package. Check Lower Manhattan, Midtown, bridges and night lighting before adding anything else.
- Add the airport next. Inspect runway elevations, taxiways, terminal areas and the approach path for terrain or exclusion problems.
- Add individual landmarks last. Look for doubled towers, flickering surfaces, buried roads, missing autogen or abrupt ground-texture rectangles.
If a fault appears immediately after enabling another package, remove that package before reinstalling the simulator or repeatedly clearing caches. Load-order changes cannot reliably reconcile two add-ons designed to replace the same building.
Do New York add-ons work in MSFS 2024 and on consoles?
Compatibility is package-specific: an add-on labelled for MSFS 2020 is not automatically a fully working MSFS 2024 product. Check for explicit simulator-version and platform support before installing or purchasing it.
- PC: Both simulator generations support manually installed Community packages, but older scenery may need an update for revised terrain, exclusions, jetways or lighting.
- Xbox Series X|S: Community-folder downloads cannot be installed manually; the add-on must be offered through the simulator's supported in-sim catalogue.
- PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro: Only Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is available, and PC Community packages cannot be installed manually. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was never released for PlayStation.
If a manually installed PC package does not appear, check that it is not buried inside an extra folder. For a conventional MSFS package, the actual package directory should contain files such as manifest.json and layout.json. A package loading without an error still needs checking in the city: taxi signs, terraforming, exclusions and night lighting are common places where generation differences become visible.
