Purchases do not normally transfer between unrelated stores. Never assume that a direct PC purchase unlocks the Marketplace edition, that a console purchase includes a PC installer, or that an MSFS 2020 licence includes an MSFS 2024 version unless the product page explicitly confirms it.

What is the safest alternative to unofficial payware download sites?

The safe alternative is an authorised retailer, the simulator’s supported Marketplace or the add-on developer’s own store.

A commercial aircraft, airport or utility distributed without the publisher’s permission is not freeware. Unauthorised packages may be modified, outdated or bundled with unsafe files, and they provide no legitimate licence or support. We do not recommend cracked payware or instructions for bypassing product activation.

If price is the concern, use our freeware aircraft, scenery and add-on library instead. Freeware is legitimately released at no charge; it is not a copied edition of a paid product.

Where can I find it to buy it?

Start with the exact add-on name, developer, simulator release and platform rather than searching only for an aircraft type or airport name.

1. Check SimShack. Search the catalogue for the aircraft name, airport name, ICAO code or utility, then read the supported-simulator field on the individual product page.
2. Check the in-sim Marketplace. This is the normal route for Xbox and PlayStation users and an installation-managed option on PC. Search from the same platform on which you intend to use the product.
3. Check the developer’s official store. This is useful when a PC edition is absent from a general catalogue or when direct support is a priority.
4. Confirm that the listing is still valid. An old review, screenshot or forum reference does not prove that the product remains on sale or supports a later simulator.

For an airport search such as CYMM, the ICAO code for Fort McMurray International Airport, search for both CYMM and the exact simulator release. A CYMM package made for FSX is not thereby compatible with MSFS 2020, MSFS 2024, X-Plane or Prepar3D. If no authorised seller lists a matching edition, it may be unavailable or discontinued.

Can you buy it?

Yes, provided an authorised seller lists a compatible licence for your simulator and platform. The same applies to searches phrased as “kan je die kopen?” or answered with “oui”: region and language do not make a PC package usable on a console, and storefront availability can differ.

What do “payware” and “payware block” mean?

Payware means commercial software sold under a paid licence. A payware block or label on a catalogue page normally identifies a commercial product or purchase section; it is not a standard MSFS, FSX, X-Plane or Prepar3D error and should not be bypassed to obtain the files.

If the operating system or security software blocks an installer, that is a separate issue. Recheck that the file came from the authorised purchase account, inspect any available signature or checksum, and contact the seller if its authenticity is unclear. Do not disable all security protection merely to force an unknown installer to run.

What is the best platform for Microsoft Flight Simulator payware?

PC provides the widest add-on choice and the most control over files; Xbox and PlayStation provide simpler Marketplace-managed installation but cannot use ordinary external PC downloads.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was released for PC and Xbox, not PlayStation. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PS5 Pro. Do not assume that every Marketplace add-on appears on every one of those platforms or that ownership transfers between their storefront ecosystems.

How should you recheck an add-on before paying?

Recheck the simulator release, platform, dependencies, delivery method and licence terms on the product page immediately before purchase.

1. Match the exact simulator. MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 are separate releases, as are X-Plane 11 and 12 and the different Prepar3D generations. FSX products may also specify particular FSX editions or installation requirements.
2. Match the device. A generic MSFS description is not enough; look for explicit PC, Xbox or PlayStation support. External installers and ZIP packages are for PC, not consoles.
3. Read the dependencies. A livery can require a separately purchased aircraft. Scenery may need a library, regional package, particular simulator edition or other base content.
4. Identify what is included. Check whether an aircraft models the systems you expect, whether scenery covers the whole airport or only part of it, and whether a utility supports your controls and operating system.
5. Check installation and updates. Establish whether delivery uses a normal download, installer, product manager or the in-sim Marketplace. Do not combine direct-store and Marketplace files for the same product.

No. A price tag does not guarantee accurate systems, efficient performance, good documentation or long-term support.

Payware is most defensible when it provides specific value: deeper aircraft systems, specialist visual modelling, extensive documentation, dependable updates or useful technical support. What if the add-on does not appear after purchase?

Most missing payware installations result from the wrong account, an uninstalled Marketplace package, an incorrect folder path or a build intended for another simulator.

• Marketplace purchase missing: sign into the account that bought it, confirm that the transaction completed, and check the simulator’s owned-content or installation library. Purchase and installation are not always the same action.
• PC package absent from MSFS: follow its own instructions and check for an extra level of folder nesting. The directory containing the package files belongs in the active Community folder, not necessarily the outer folder created by the ZIP archive.
• FSX or Prepar3D installer cannot find the simulator: verify that it is targeting the installed edition and correct simulator directory. Do not point a legacy installer at MSFS merely because both products depict the same aircraft or airport.
• Airport has duplicate buildings or runways: remove or disable the competing third-party version. Two CYMM packages, for example, can conflict even when each works correctly on its own.
• Console installation fails: use only content supplied through the supported in-sim storefront. A SimShack download, developer ZIP or Windows installer cannot be transferred manually to Xbox or PlayStation.
• Product stopped working after a simulator update: recheck the developer’s compatibility notice and install the correct product update. Reinstalling an old build repeatedly will not make it compatible.
