Fix FSUIPC errors in FS2004 with the correct FSUIPC 3 DLL, log checks, clean configuration, registration fixes and add-on isolation.
To fix FSUIPC errors in FS2004, confirm that one FS2004-compatible FSUIPC 3 DLL is installed in the simulator’s Modules folder. Check FSUIPC.log, reset FSUIPC.ini, then test without recently added gauges or utilities. These checks distinguish a damaged installation from an add-on reporting its failure through FSUIPC.
What causes FSUIPC errors in FS2004?
Most FS2004 FSUIPC errors come from an incompatible DLL, duplicate module, damaged configuration, invalid registration file or an add-on expecting a different FSUIPC version.
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
FS2004 reports a problem with FSUIPC.dll during startup | Wrong, damaged or duplicate DLL | Remove every FSUIPC DLL from Modules, then install one clean FSUIPC 3 copy |
| An aircraft or utility says FSUIPC is too old | The add-on requires a later FS2004-compatible build | Update within the FSUIPC 3 series; do not substitute FSUIPC4 or a later simulator-specific branch |
| Unsupported or incorrect Flight Simulator version | Incompatible FSUIPC build, unpatched FS2004 or modified fs9.exe | Use the official FS2004 executable, apply the FS2004 9.1 update and reinstall the correct module |
| Registration details are invalid | Damaged FSUIPC.key or details that do not match the issued key | Test without the key file, then restore the original registration details exactly |
No FSUIPC.log is created | The DLL was not loaded, is in the wrong folder or was blocked | Check the installation path, file security properties and antivirus quarantine history |
How do I repair FSUIPC without losing my settings?
The safest repair replaces the DLL while preserving your assignments, calibration and registration files separately.
- Close FS2004 and connected utilities. A running process can keep the DLL or log file locked.
- Back up the FSUIPC files. Copy
FSUIPC.ini,FSUIPC.keyand the latestFSUIPC.logfrom the simulator’sModulesfolder to a safe location. - Move the existing DLL outside the Modules folder. Do not leave a file called something like
FSUIPC_old.dllthere. FS2004 may still attempt to load it because its extension remains.dll. - Install the FS2004 edition. FS2004 uses the FSUIPC 3 branch. FSUIPC4 and later branches target newer simulators and must not be placed in FS9. Our FSUIPC installation steps for FS2004 cover the correct folder and basic setup.
- Confirm that only one copy exists. The active file belongs in
Flight Simulator 9\Modules, not in the main simulator folder, an aircraft panel folder or a Windows system directory. - Start a simple default flight. Use a default aircraft and leave external FSUIPC clients closed. If FS2004 now loads, open the module’s menu entry and inspect the newly generated log.
- Reset the configuration if the error remains. Move
FSUIPC.inioutsideModulesand start FS2004 again. FSUIPC will create a clean configuration; your old assignments remain in the backup. - Restore settings selectively. If the clean configuration works, rebuild changed assignments or compare the files rather than immediately replacing the new INI with the faulty one.
If Windows shows an Unblock option in the downloaded archive or DLL’s Properties window, use it before installation. When FS2004 is under a protected system folder, run the installer with sufficient permission so it can write to Modules; permanent administrator mode should not be the first fix.
What does FSUIPC.log tell me?
FSUIPC.log records the simulator version, FSUIPC build, initialisation progress and many connection failures. Read the final entries immediately after reproducing the error because the log is normally rewritten when FSUIPC starts again.
- If the log identifies the wrong simulator or an unsupported executable, verify
fs9.exeand the FS2004 9.1 update. - If initialisation completes successfully, FSUIPC itself probably loaded correctly; investigate the aircraft, gauge or external programme that displayed the error.
- If the file stops during module initialisation, test with a clean
FSUIPC.iniand no registration file. - If there is no log at all, check that the DLL is in the active FS2004 installation rather than an old or duplicate simulator folder.
Why does FS2004 still crash after reinstalling FSUIPC?
A crash mentioning FSUIPC does not prove that FSUIPC caused it. Aircraft gauges, weather tools, hardware interfaces and other utilities use FSUIPC, so a faulty client can be the component that sends bad data or fails while connecting.
Move FSUIPC.dll completely outside Modules and start FS2004 with a default aircraft. Dependent add-ons may complain that FSUIPC is missing, but this test is still useful: if FS2004 crashes without the DLL, follow our broader FS2004 startup-crash checks instead.
If the simulator works without FSUIPC and also works with a clean FSUIPC installation, reconnect external utilities one at a time. Test recently installed aircraft and gauges last. This isolates the client responsible without removing unrelated scenery or rebuilding the whole simulator.
Can FS2004 run with an unregistered FSUIPC copy?
FS2004 can run with an unregistered FSUIPC installation, and many add-ons use its basic interface without requiring the user features to be registered. Assignments, calibration and other registered facilities remain unavailable.
When a registration error appears, back up and temporarily remove FSUIPC.key. If FSUIPC then loads normally, the DLL is sound and the problem is the key file or entered registration details. Do not replace the working DLL or use another person’s key; restore the original name, email and key exactly as issued.
