Learn what FSUIPC for FS2004 does, which version FS9 needs, where FSUIPC.dll belongs, and how to fix module and compatibility errors.
FSUIPC for Flight Simulator 2004 (FS9) is a module that lets compatible add-ons exchange data with the simulator and, when registered, adds advanced control assignment and calibration tools. Install the FS2004-specific FSUIPC 3 module in the simulator’s Modules folder, then launch FS2004 and approve the module if prompted.
What does FSUIPC do in Flight Simulator 2004?
FSUIPC stands for Flight Simulator Universal Inter-Process Communication and acts as a bridge between FS2004 and compatible software. Programs can use its standardised interface to read aircraft position, speed, weather and system states or send supported commands back to the simulator.
Hardware utilities, flight loggers, weather programs and complex panels are typical users. FSUIPC is not an aircraft, gauge or scenery package by itself, and installing it will not improve graphics or frame rates. Only install it when an add-on requires it or when you want its registered control facilities.
Which FSUIPC version does FS2004 need?
Flight Simulator 2004 requires the FSUIPC 3 family; FSUIPC builds intended for FSX or newer simulators cannot replace it.
| Package label | Suitable for FS2004? | Installation target |
|---|---|---|
| FSUIPC 3, FS2004 or FS9 | Yes | Flight Simulator 9\Modules\FSUIPC.dll |
| FSUIPC 4 or an FSX-only build | No | Do not install it in FS2004 |
Our FSUIPC module archive and installation background can help identify the available files, but FS9 users must select the component explicitly labelled for FS2004 or FSUIPC 3. Avoid the very old FSUIPC DLL bundled with some period add-ons, as installing it can overwrite a later compatible build.
How do I install FSUIPC in FS2004?
- Close FS2004. The simulator must not be running while its module is installed or replaced.
- Confirm the FS2004 build. We recommend installing the archived official FS2004 9.1 update first. FSUIPC checks the simulator executable, so an incompatible FS9 build can produce a version error.
- Find the real FS9 folder. Locate
fs9.exe. Its folder should also contain directories such asAircraft,Gauges,ModulesandScenery. Do not rely solely on a desktop shortcut. - Extract the download. Unzip the complete archive to a temporary folder. Do not launch an installer or copy a DLL directly from inside the compressed archive.
- Use the supplied installer if present. Select the FS2004 folder containing
fs9.exe. If the package provides onlyFSUIPC.dll, copy that file manually into FS2004’s existingModulesfolder. - Approve the module. Start FS2004 and allow FSUIPC to run if the simulator displays a security or trust prompt. Approve only the file obtained from the trusted package you intended to install.
- Verify that it loaded. Load a flight and check the simulator’s
Modulesmenu for an FSUIPC entry. The module normally createsFSUIPC.iniand a log file in the same folder after a successful start.
If Windows prevents the installer from writing to an FS2004 installation under Program Files, run that installer with administrator permission or copy the DLL while approving the file operation. Always confirm that FSUIPC.dll ended up in the physical Modules folder beside your actual fs9.exe.
Do I need to register FSUIPC for FS2004?
A personal registration is normally unnecessary merely to run an add-on that lists FSUIPC as a dependency. Compatible client programs can usually use the communication interface without the user owning a registration, although the add-on’s documentation takes precedence.
Registration unlocks FSUIPC’s user-facing facilities, including advanced button, axis and joystick calibration options. If updating an existing registered installation, preserve FSUIPC.key and FSUIPC.ini; replace only the DLL unless the package instructions say otherwise.
Why does FSUIPC not appear in the FS2004 Modules menu?
A missing menu entry usually means FS2004 did not find, trust or load the DLL. Check these common causes in order:
- Wrong folder depth: the required path ends with
Modules\FSUIPC.dll, notModules\FSUIPC\FSUIPC.dll. - Wrong major version: remove any FSX-only FSUIPC file and install the FS2004-compatible FSUIPC 3 DLL.
- FS9 version mismatch: patch a supported installation to 9.1 and use an FSUIPC 3 build intended for that executable. Altered or unsupported copies of
fs9.exemay fail the module’s version check. - Installation went to another FS9 copy: systems with multiple installations can cause an old installer to select the wrong directory. Compare the installed path with the shortcut used to start FS2004.
- The DLL was blocked: open the downloaded file’s Windows properties and use
Unblockif that option appears, then copy it again. - The trust prompt was declined: back up the FS9 configuration file, clear the rejected FSUIPC trust record and restart the simulator so it can ask again.
- An add-on downgraded FSUIPC: reinstall the later compatible FSUIPC 3 DLL after installing older aircraft or utilities that include their own copy.
If FSUIPC.log exists in the Modules folder, its opening lines normally identify a simulator-version or loading problem. If no log is created at all, FS2004 is usually looking in a different installation, the DLL is misplaced, or Windows has prevented it from loading.
