What makes MSFS 2024 flight loading slow?
Slow flight loading usually comes from streamed data, complex content or a package that is not responding correctly. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 relies heavily on cloud-delivered world data, so loading is not determined by storage speed alone.

How do I fix slow flight loading in MSFS 2024?
The quickest fix is to establish a clean baseline and change one variable at a time. This avoids the common mistake of deleting caches, add-ons and settings together without discovering which one caused the delay.
- Start with a clean default flight. Fully quit MSFS 2024 rather than resuming a suspended console session, then choose a default aircraft and a small, non-handcrafted airport. If this loads normally, the simulator installation itself is probably sound.
- Check the internet connection. Pause other downloads, disconnect any VPN, restart the router if necessary and use Ethernet where practical. A connection can have adequate headline speed but still suffer from packet loss or unstable latency. - Rebuild the rolling cache once. Use the simulator's rolling-cache controls to delete and recreate it, preferably on an SSD with adequate free space. Do not clear it before every flight; the next load may be slower because the data must be streamed again.
- Isolate Community and marketplace add-ons. On PC, close the simulator and temporarily rename the
Communityfolder so MSFS 2024 starts without its contents. On consoles, disable or uninstall non-default packages through the simulator's library or content manager. Test the aircraft, departure airport and destination scenery separately. An add-on appearing in the library does not guarantee that it works cleanly in MSFS 2024. - Check storage and background activity. Keep the simulator packages and rolling cache on fast storage, leave free space available and close applications consuming substantial memory, disk or network capacity. On PC, security software scanning thousands of add-on files can also extend loading, but protection should not be disabled permanently.
- Update or repair the affected content. Install simulator and package updates, then use the platform's file-verification or repair function if default flights remain slow. Reinstall the suspect aircraft or airport before reinstalling the entire simulator. Avoid deleting cloud saves or resetting the whole profile as an early troubleshooting step.
- Allow for service-side congestion. If every default flight suddenly loads slowly despite a stable connection and no local changes, the delay may be outside the PC or console. Fully restart the simulator and retry later before undertaking a large reinstall.
Is a slow first flight load normal?
A slower first load can be normal after a simulator update, rolling-cache rebuild, new add-on installation or the first use of a complex aircraft. MSFS 2024 may need to stream scenery and initialise content that is not yet cached locally.
There is no useful universal loading-time target because aircraft complexity, airport detail, connection quality and cached data vary widely. The practical test is repeatability: if the same clean flight becomes noticeably faster on its second load and always completes, the first delay was probably normal preparation rather than a fault.
Why does only one aircraft or airport load slowly?
If only one aircraft or location loads slowly, that package or a conflict around it is the leading suspect. Use two comparison flights to separate aircraft trouble from scenery trouble:
- Load the suspect aircraft at a simple default airport.
- Load a default aircraft at the suspect airport.
- If the aircraft is slow everywhere, disable its liveries and related modifications before reinstalling it.
- If every aircraft is slow at one airport, disable that airport and overlapping regional scenery.
- If only one aircraft-and-airport combination is slow, look for a compatibility conflict rather than assuming either package is universally broken.

What if MSFS 2024 stops loading instead of being slow?
