How do I fix the A32NX overhead panel?

Use a known powered aircraft state first, then isolate input and installation faults in that order.

  1. Run a powered-state test. Load the FlyByWire A32NX on a runway so it starts in an engine-running state. If the overhead works there but not at a parking stand, the aircraft package is probably sound and the fault is in the cold-and-dark power sequence.
  2. Establish electrical power. From cold and dark, switch on both batteries. Connect ground power through the flyPad and press EXT PWR once it shows AVAIL, or complete the APU start. External power showing AVAIL is not yet connected; the pushbutton should indicate ON after selection.
  3. Reset cockpit interaction. Find the Cockpit Interaction System setting in MSFS 2020's accessibility options and test both Legacy and Lock modes. Restore the default mouse profile if the cursor highlights controls but clicks or wheel movements do nothing. Return to the flight after changing the setting rather than testing while a menu still has input focus.
  4. Remove conflicting commands. Disconnect yokes, throttles, switch panels and gamepads, leaving only the mouse and keyboard. Disable piloting assistance temporarily. If the panel now works, reconnect each device and search its assignments for battery, avionics, generator, alternator and APU commands. Clear duplicate or continuously held assignments.
  5. Test a clean Community folder. Close MSFS, move every other add-on out of the active Community folder, and retain only one complete A32NX installation. Outdated liveries and aircraft-system modifications can replace or conflict with cockpit files. Restart the simulator fully after changing packages.
  6. Clean-install the A32NX. Quit MSFS, remove every existing A32NX package rather than copying new files over old ones, and install one release channel only. How can I tell whether this is a power or lighting problem?

If switches can be operated but neither their annunciators nor the flight displays illuminate, diagnose aircraft power before changing mouse settings.

Briefly place the overhead annunciator-light control in its test position. If the annunciators illuminate, the overhead has power and the remaining issue is likely a system state or lighting setting. If only the panel lettering is dark, turn up the overhead integral or flood lighting; those controls are separate from pushbutton status annunciators.

When the flight displays, radio panels and other avionics are dark as well, follow our electrical-power and blank-screen checks. Reinstalling the aircraft will not correct a battery, external-power or brightness problem.

Why do overhead switches move and then snap back?

A switch that moves and immediately returns is normally being overridden by a controller binding, not blocked by the FlyByWire cockpit.

Hardware switch panels often send a continuous SET command, so an on-screen click lasts only until the next hardware input arrives. Generic MSFS avionics-master and alternator bindings can also conflict with the A32NX's Airbus-specific electrical logic. Unplugging all controllers is the quickest confirmation; once identified, remove the conflicting assignment rather than adding another binding.

When should I reinstall the FlyByWire A32NX?

Reinstall only when the problem survives the powered-state, mouse and controller tests, or when several A32NX-specific systems are missing together.

Before doing so, confirm that the aircraft-selection screen identifies the FlyByWire A32NX rather than the stock A320neo wearing a similar livery. A common installation mistake is keeping two A32NX copies, merging different builds, or placing the package inside an extra nested folder.

If the overhead works and only the tablet is unresponsive, use the separate flyPad input and package-conflict checks instead. If a clean A32NX works by itself, restore other Community add-ons in small groups until the conflicting package reveals itself.
