Why are Logitech flight panels not working in MSFS 2020?

Ian Stephens
In short

Fix Logitech flight panels not working in MSFS 2020 by checking drivers, the MSFS plug-in, USB power, panel software and aircraft compatibility.

Logitech flight panels usually fail in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 because Windows cannot see the USB device, the Logitech MSFS plug-in is missing or not running, USB power management has suspended it, or the aircraft uses unsupported custom events. Check Windows detection first, then reinstall the correct panel software and plug-in.

What is actually preventing the panel from working?

The symptom usually identifies whether the fault is at the USB, driver, simulator plug-in or aircraft level.

How do I fix Logitech flight panels in MSFS 2020?

Fix the lowest failing layer first: Windows detection, Logitech software, the MSFS connector and then aircraft compatibility.

  1. Confirm which device you have. The Radio Panel, Multi Panel and Switch Panel use connector software rather than ordinary axis bindings. The Flight Instrument Panel has separate display software. A Logitech yoke, throttle quadrant, joystick or rudder pedals is a normal controller and needs a different controls-based diagnosis.
  2. Close MSFS and disconnect the panel stack. Reconnect one panel directly to a motherboard USB port. Leave other panels and unpowered hubs disconnected until that single unit works.
  3. Check Windows detection. Look in Device Manager and the Windows USB device list. The category and displayed name can vary, and older units may still appear under the Saitek name. An unknown device, warning symbol or repeated connection sound points to a USB or driver problem rather than MSFS.
  4. Remove conflicting panel packages. Old Saitek software, newer Logitech software and third-party connector utilities can overlap. Uninstall only the panel-related packages you no longer use, reboot Windows and do not remove generic HID or USB controller entries indiscriminately.
  5. Install the correct software and MSFS plug-in. Drivers intended for older simulators are not enough by themselves. Follow our clean driver and MSFS plug-in installation sequence, approving any Windows installation prompts and restarting when requested. The Windows installer does not belong in the Community folder.
  6. Confirm that the connector starts. The Logitech helper supplied for Microsoft Flight Simulator must be running so it can exchange data through SimConnect. If Windows sees the panel but every aircraft ignores it, repair the plug-in installation and check whether security software has blocked or quarantined its helper process.
  7. Test a stock aircraft in a powered state. Load a default aircraft, switch on its battery, avionics and relevant instrument power, then operate each knob or switch. If Logitech's panel test utility works but MSFS does not, the hardware is sound and the fault is in the simulator connector or aircraft integration.
  8. Disable USB power saving if the panel drops out. In the Windows power-management properties for the relevant USB hubs, clear the option allowing Windows to turn off the device to save power. If several illuminated panels share one bus, use a properly powered USB hub rather than relying on a passive hub.
  9. Add the remaining panels one at a time. Retest after each connection. Run only one panel bridge or connector utility; two utilities can send duplicate commands, produce double knob increments and fight over display output.

Why does the panel not appear in MSFS Controls Options?

The Radio, Multi and Switch Panels normally do not behave like bindable joysticks in MSFS 2020, so their absence from Controls Options does not by itself indicate a fault.

The Logitech plug-in translates their switches, knobs and displays through simulator events. By contrast, yokes, pedals, throttles and joysticks should appear as controller devices with assignable axes and buttons.

Why is the display blank while some buttons still work?

A blank display with working buttons usually means the output path, aircraft electrical state or display-specific software has failed while input commands are still reaching the simulator.

Turn on the aircraft battery and avionics, then test a default aircraft. For a dark autopilot display, use our blank Multi Panel LCD checks. A Flight Instrument Panel uses its own display driver, so follow the separate FIP software, plug-in and USB diagnosis instead.

On the Switch Panel, gear lights depend on valid simulator gear-state output. They will not provide a meaningful test in a fixed-gear aircraft, and an add-on using custom gear variables may not drive them correctly. Persistent switch or indicator faults are covered by our Switch Panel input and gear-light checks.

Why does the panel work with default aircraft but not an add-on?

If the panel works in a stock aircraft, its USB connection, driver and basic MSFS plug-in are functioning; the add-on probably uses custom events that the standard Logitech connector does not understand.

Update the aircraft and look for its own hardware-integration instructions or profiles. Standard functions may still work while specialised controls do not. Reinstalling the USB driver repeatedly will not fix an aircraft-specific event mismatch.

Can Logitech flight panels work with MSFS 2020 on Xbox?

These desktop Logitech/Saitek panels depend on Windows drivers and connector software, so this repair process applies to the PC edition of MSFS 2020. Xbox cannot install the required Windows helper, and ordinary USB detection there does not provide equivalent panel support.
