Is FSX real-world weather still working?
The built-in Real-world weather option relies on ageing legacy infrastructure and should no longer be treated as a dependable weather source. FSX: Steam Edition did not introduce a replacement feed, so reinstalling either edition cannot repair a remote service that is no longer returning usable data.
Use a static theme or user-defined conditions when you need predictable weather. How do I fix FSX hanging on worldwide weather?
The quickest fix is to establish whether weather is genuinely responsible, then remove one weather source at a time. The loading message shows the last stage FSX reached, not necessarily the component that has failed.
- Build a clean Free Flight test. Select a default FSX aircraft, a stock airport, daytime conditions and the Clear Skies theme. Do not load the saved flight, add-on aircraft or detailed scenery involved in the original freeze.
- Test weather modes in order. Try Clear Skies, another stock theme and user-defined weather, starting a fresh flight for each test. Select Real-world weather last. If every offline mode loads, the simulator’s local weather system is functioning and the online feed is the fault.
- Close external weather software completely. Exit FSX, stop the weather injector and close any background launcher or tray process before restarting the simulator. Do not ask FSX to download real-world weather while another utility is injecting conditions through SimConnect.
- Replace the saved flight’s weather snapshot. Saved flights normally have matching
.FLTand.WXfiles inDocuments\Flight Simulator X Files. Back up the pair, move the affected.WXfile elsewhere and test from Free Flight. If that removes the freeze, recreate and save the flight with a static theme rather than copying an unrelated.WXfile into it. - Regenerate the active configuration. Do this only if Clear Skies also fails. Close FSX, open
%APPDATA%\Microsoft, locate the FSX or FSX-SE profile whose configuration file was modified when you last closed the simulator, and rename that configuration file with an.oldsuffix. What if FSX real-world weather still doesn’t work?
If Clear Skies and user-defined weather work but FSX real-world weather still does not, there is no dependable local repair for the legacy feed. Repeated reinstalls, disabling security software, downloading replacement DLL files or deleting the entire Weather folder will not restore a failed remote service and may create another fault.

Can detailed weather cause an out-of-memory crash?
Yes, dense clouds can be the final load that exhausts 32-bit FSX’s available address space, even on 64-bit Windows. This normally appears only with a demanding aircraft, detailed scenery or heavy AI traffic rather than being limited to the Real-world weather option.
