Do beginners need a HOTAS for DCS?
No, a HOTAS is not mandatory, but analogue control makes DCS much easier to learn. A joystick with a small throttle control is enough to begin, and a gamepad can work with careful bindings; keyboard-only flying makes smooth pitch, roll and throttle inputs unnecessarily difficult.
