How do I request pushback and ground services in FSX?

In FSX and FSX: Steam Edition, press Shift+P to start or stop stock pushback; tap 1 for tail-left or 2 for tail-right steering immediately after starting. Use Ctrl+J for a compatible jetway, Shift+F for a fuel truck, and the aircraft’s configured exit command for baggage service.

How do I request pushback in FSX?

Stock FSX has no pushback option in the ATC menu; Shift+P directly starts or stops the built-in pushback function.

1. Prepare the aircraft. Finish refuelling and baggage operations, close the doors, retract the jetway and set the throttles to idle.
2. Release the parking brake. FSX will not begin moving while the brake remains set.
3. Start pushback. Press and release Shift+P. A short delay before movement is normal.
4. Select the turn. Straight after starting, tap 1 to move the tail left or 2 to move it right. Do not hold Shift while pressing the number.
5. Stop the tug. Press Shift+P again. Once the aircraft has stopped, set the parking brake.

Which FSX ground services commands should I use?

FSX spreads its stock ground services across keyboard events rather than providing one dispatcher or ground-operations window.

For baggage service, press and release Shift+E, then quickly tap the required exit number. 2 is common on stock jet aircraft, but it is not universal. An add-on aircraft may assign its cargo doors to another number or control them through a cockpit panel or electronic flight bag.

What is the correct gate-to-pushback sequence?

Complete jetway, fuel and baggage operations before commanding pushback.

1. Park accurately. Centre the aircraft on a suitable stand, bring the throttles to idle and set the parking brake.
2. Operate the jetway. Press Ctrl+J if the stand has a working animated jetway.
3. Request the services. Use Shift+F for fuel and open the configured cargo or baggage exit if baggage vehicles are supported.
4. Secure the stand. Close the doors, press Ctrl+J to retract the jetway and allow vehicles to move clear.
5. Push back. Release the parking brake, press Shift+P, select the tail direction and stop with Shift+P when clear.

Starting pushback with the jetway attached does not produce a realistic automatic disconnection. It can instead leave the jetway intersecting the aircraft, so retract it first.

How do I request or assign a fuel truck in FSX?

Press Shift+F to request fuel; FSX does not let you assign a particular truck or worker.

Unlike an airport-management simulator, there is no staff-allocation screen. FSX sends the request through the airport’s service-vehicle system, and the truck must have a suitable parking location and a connected route to the aircraft. A truck seen driving elsewhere on the airport is not necessarily available for your stand.

If no truck arrives, raise Airport vehicle density above none, wait at a marked parking stand and try a larger default airport. You can still refuel through FSX’s Fuel and Payload dialogue when the scenery has no usable fuel-truck network.

Why do FSX ground services not appear?

Missing ground services usually indicate unsupported scenery, inaccurate parking or incompatible aircraft exits rather than a broken keyboard command.

• Airport traffic is disabled. Set Airport vehicle density above none for fuel and baggage vehicles. The core Shift+P pushback command is separate from this traffic setting.
• The object is static scenery. A modelled tug, loader or jetway may be decorative and therefore unable to respond.
• Advanced animations are off. Enable Advanced Animations in the graphics settings when an animated jetway refuses to move.
• The aircraft is outside operating range. Reposition nearer the stand centreline and stopping mark. Jetways and service vehicles tolerate only a limited positioning error.
• The aircraft lacks the required exit. Some add-on aircraft omit or customise the exit definitions in aircraft.cfg, so the usual baggage-door number or jetway position will not work.
• The controls were reassigned. Boxed FSX and FSX: Steam Edition use the same stock events, but saved control profiles can replace their default keys. Find the pushback, jetway or fuel-truck event in the control assignments and bind it again.
• An add-on has taken control. Ground-handling packages and complex aircraft may intercept the stock keys and require their own menu or panel.

Why does Shift+P do nothing?

The usual causes are a set parking brake, paused simulation, Slew mode or a conflicting control assignment.

Confirm that the aircraft is on the ground and stationary, release the parking brake, leave Slew mode and try the command from the simulator window. If an add-on text box or menu has keyboard focus, close it before pressing Shift+P. Add-on aircraft with their own tug system may deliberately disable stock pushback.

Why does FSX pushback go straight or turn the wrong way?

A straight push means the steering number was not registered in time, while an apparently wrong turn usually comes from watching the nose rather than the tail.

Stop with Shift+P, restart and tap 1 or 2 immediately. Use the main keyboard number row if the numeric keypad carries separate view assignments. Remember that 1 sends the tail left and nose right; 2 sends the tail right and nose left.

Does FSX ATC provide pushback clearance?

No. Stock FSX ATC neither grants pushback clearance nor dispatches the tug.

Use Shift+P yourself, stop clear of the stand and then contact Ground for taxi clearance where that service is available. A third-party dispatcher may simulate pushback approval, but that is separate from the default ATC system.

Does FSX have a stock Ground app or Ground Services X menu?

No. FSX has no built-in app called StockGround and no combined ground-services menu.

If by Ground Services X you mean GSX, that is a separate third-party ground-handling system rather than another name for stock FSX services. Its own menu and aircraft profiles may replace the commands described above. The default CRJ and other stock regional jets, or RJs, still use Shift+P; an add-on RJ may provide its own pushback panel.

Which freeware ground services add-ons are useful in FSX?

Use the stock commands when you only need basic gate departure; choose a freeware gauge when you want finer pushback control, audio prompts or taxi-speed assistance.
