Reset your FSX pilot logbook and mission rewards safely, with file locations for boxed FSX and Steam Edition plus fixes if progress returns.
To reset your FSX pilot logbook and mission rewards, close the simulator, move or rename the active Logbook.BIN and GrantedRewards.bin files, then restart FSX. FSX starts a blank record and recreates each file when needed. Keep the originals elsewhere until you confirm the reset; they hold different parts of your progress.
Where are the FSX logbook and reward files?
FSX stores the pilot logbook and awarded mission rewards in two separate files under your Windows user profile.

FSX: Steam Edition can use either the FSX or FSX-SE application-data folder, depending on the installation history and whether boxed FSX is also installed. If both folders contain GrantedRewards.bin, reset only the edition you intend to clear—or back up and move both if you want both editions reset.
The Documents folder may be redirected into OneDrive or another location. Open Windows' actual Documents folder rather than assuming it is on the C: drive. Boxed FSX and Steam Edition may also share the same Documents logbook under one Windows account.
How do I reset both files safely?
- Close FSX completely. Do not move the files while the simulator is running, because it may write the old data back when it exits.
- Create a reversible backup. Moving the files into a separate backup folder is safer than deleting them. Our instructions for preserving both FSX progress files explain how to restore them later.
- Move the logbook. Open your Windows Documents folder, enter
Flight Simulator X Files, and moveLogbook.BINout of that folder. - Move the rewards record. Enter
%APPDATA%\Microsoftin File Explorer's address bar, open the relevantFSXorFSX-SEfolder, and moveGrantedRewards.binelsewhere. - Restart FSX and check Pilot Records. Previous logbook entries and earned rewards should be absent. A replacement file may not appear until FSX has new flight or reward data to save.
If you want to clear only flight history, move only Logbook.BIN. To clear mission badges and reward grants while retaining flight hours, move only GrantedRewards.bin.
Why did the old logbook or rewards come back?
Old progress usually returns because FSX was still running, the wrong edition folder was changed, or a synchronisation utility restored the original file.
- Flights disappeared but rewards remain: you moved
Logbook.BINbut not the activeGrantedRewards.bin. - Rewards disappeared but flights remain: only the rewards file was moved.
- Nothing changed: check that you used the same Windows account that runs FSX and inspect both
FSXandFSX-SEapplication-data folders. - The file reappears with old data: close FSX before moving it and check whether Windows folder synchronisation or backup software is restoring it.
- No new rewards file appears: this can be normal until FSX records an earned reward.
What remains after an FSX progress reset?
Resetting these files does not remove aircraft, scenery, installed missions, saved flights, controller assignments or graphics settings. Do not delete the simulator's installation-level Rewards folder; it contains reward definitions rather than your personal award record.
Deleting FSX.cfg will not clear pilot history. If the real problem is a damaged configuration or unwanted display and control settings, use the separate procedure for regenerating a clean FSX configuration.
