Set up BeyondATC in MSFS 2024 on PC: install, connect through SimConnect, configure voice and PTT, avoid conflicts, and fix common errors.
To set up BeyondATC in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, install it as a separate Windows application, launch MSFS 2024 and load into an aircraft, then let BeyondATC connect through SimConnect. Configure your microphone, speakers, push-to-talk key and flight-plan source, while leaving MSFS’s built-in ATC and any competing traffic injector inactive.
BeyondATC is a PC application. It cannot run directly with the Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 versions of MSFS 2024 because those consoles cannot install the required Windows companion software.
Does BeyondATC go in the MSFS 2024 Community folder?
No. BeyondATC runs outside the simulator and communicates with MSFS 2024 through SimConnect; it is not a conventional aircraft or scenery package. Do not extract its installer or application files into Community. Our explanation of the MSFS 2024 Community folder and package paths shows what that folder is actually intended to contain.
You normally do not need FSUIPC or a manually installed SimConnect client. SimConnect support is included with the PC simulator.
How do you connect BeyondATC to MSFS 2024?
The most reliable setup order is to install and configure BeyondATC first, then establish the simulator connection from a loaded cockpit.
- Install the BeyondATC application. Use the developer-supplied installer and place it in a normal Windows application location, not inside the MSFS Packages or Community directories. Allow its updater and required data components to finish before opening the simulator.
- Sign in and complete the initial setup. Select any available voice options and let the application download the components required by your chosen configuration.
- Start MSFS 2024 and load at a parking stand. Being at the main menu is not always enough for the aircraft, position and radio data to become available. For the first connection test, use a default aircraft at a standard airport rather than a heavily modified add-on.
- Open BeyondATC and check its connection status. It should detect the running simulator through SimConnect without asking for the Community folder. If it remains disconnected, restart BeyondATC after the aircraft has finished loading.
- Choose explicit audio devices. Select the actual microphone and headset or speakers rather than relying on the Windows default. This prevents audio from moving to a monitor, controller or Bluetooth hands-free device when Windows changes its default output.
- Bind push-to-talk. Use an unused joystick button or keyboard key and test it in BeyondATC. Avoid bindings already assigned to the MSFS ATC window, pause, cockpit interaction or another voice application.
- Choose automatic or manual radio tuning. Automatic tuning is easiest for an initial test. With manual tuning, the correct COM radio must be active and the cockpit audio panel must be configured correctly before transmitting.
- Import or enter the flight plan. Use BeyondATC’s supported flight-plan workflow, commonly a SimBrief import, and verify the callsign, aircraft type, origin, destination and route. Keep the same route in BeyondATC, the aircraft FMS and the simulator; our instructions for bringing a SimBrief plan into MSFS 2024 cover the simulator side of that process.
- Start the ATC session at the gate. Begin with the aircraft stationary, then request clearance using the frequency and phraseology presented by BeyondATC.
Which MSFS 2024 ATC and traffic settings should be disabled?
Do not operate BeyondATC and the built-in MSFS controller at the same time. Turn off AI-assisted radio communications, stop responding through the simulator’s ATC panel and mute the default ATC voices if they continue playing. Our guide to MSFS 2024’s built-in ATC controls explains which system is producing each transmission.
If you enable BeyondATC’s traffic injection, also disable MSFS Live Traffic, offline AI traffic and any separate injector. Two injectors create duplicate aircraft, occupied gates and traffic that BeyondATC cannot control. Installed model libraries can generally remain available; it is the competing injector process that must be stopped. Reducing static parked-aircraft density can also prevent aircraft spawning on already occupied stands.
Why is BeyondATC not connecting or recognising speech?
Most BeyondATC setup failures come from the simulator not being fully loaded, an incorrect Windows audio device, blocked network access or two applications competing for the same controls.
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting for simulator or disconnected | MSFS is still loading, SimConnect has stalled or access is blocked | Load fully into the cockpit, allow BeyondATC through the Windows firewall on private networks and restart the application. Avoid running one program as administrator while the other uses normal privileges. |
| Microphone meter does not move | Wrong input device or denied microphone permission | Select the microphone by name, enable Windows microphone access and confirm that it records outside the simulator. |
| Audio is visible but not heard | Wrong playback device or muted application session | Check BeyondATC’s output selection and its individual level in the Windows volume mixer. Recheck the device after connecting a VR or Bluetooth headset. |
| Push-to-talk does nothing | Conflicting binding or privilege mismatch | Bind a simple unused key first, test it, then move the command to the desired controller button. Run MSFS and BeyondATC at the same Windows privilege level. |
| Route or waypoint is rejected | Different flight plans or navigation-data cycles | Reimport the route and compare every fix with the aircraft FMS. Use compatible navigation data across the planner, aircraft and ATC application where possible. |
| Duplicate or uncontrolled AI aircraft | More than one traffic source is active | Leave only one injector running and disable the simulator’s own live or offline AI traffic when using BeyondATC traffic. |
Can BeyondATC be used with MSFS 2024 in VR?
Yes, on PC, but BeyondATC remains an external desktop window rather than a native cockpit panel. Route its audio to the VR headset, bind push-to-talk to a physical controller and complete flight-plan changes before putting on the headset where practical. Our BeyondATC VR setup advice covers window access, audio routing and control bindings in more detail.
