Invert camera controls in MSFS 2024 by reversing the look axis, fixing split up/down bindings, and saving cockpit, external and drone settings.
In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, open Settings > Controls, select the controller or joystick used for looking, and find the cockpit camera’s vertical look axis. Edit that binding and enable Reverse Axis or Invert. Repeat for external and drone camera axes if required, then save the changes to a custom control profile.
How do I invert the camera Y-axis in MSFS 2024?
Reverse the active look axis on the profile belonging to the device that controls your camera.
- Open the control settings. Enter Settings > Controls from the main screen or pause menu.
- Select the correct device. Choose the gamepad, joystick, yoke or mouse that actually moves the view. Control profiles are device-specific, so changing a joystick profile will not alter a camera controlled by the gamepad.
- Find the camera input. Use input search, if available, and move the right stick or camera control vertically. Otherwise, search for terms such as
camera,lookorfreelook. The precise command wording can vary between device presets; our reference to camera commands and binding tests helps identify the active one. - Open the axis options. Select the vertical cockpit look binding and enable Reverse Axis or Invert. Do not change the elevator or aircraft pitch axis.
- Test the direction. Return to the cockpit and move the control upwards. With vertical inversion enabled, the view should move down. Reverse the horizontal look axis as well only if you want left and right swapped.

The principle is the same on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, although button prompts and profile names differ. On Xbox, the right stick normally controls camera look; use our Xbox default-control reference if input search does not identify it.
Which camera axis should I reverse?
Reverse only the axis for the camera mode whose direction you want to change, because cockpit, external and drone views use separate assignments.

If inversion works in the cockpit but not outside the aircraft, nothing is broken: reverse the corresponding external-camera axis as well. Hat-switch views, freelook and drone movement may also have distinct commands.
What if Reverse Axis is not available?
If there is no reverse option, the camera is probably bound as two directional commands rather than one analogue axis.
- Locate both direction bindings. Find the separate look-up and look-down commands.
- Swap their inputs. Assign physical stick-up to look down and physical stick-down to look up.
- Remove the original assignments. Leaving both sets active can make the camera hesitate, snap back or ignore one direction.
Use the same method for horizontal inversion by swapping look-left and look-right. Changing sensitivity or dead-zone sliders will not reverse the direction; those settings only alter how the input responds.
Why is the camera still moving the wrong way?
The usual cause is an active binding in a different device profile or camera context.
- Wrong profile: confirm that the custom profile containing the reversed axis is selected for the device.
- Wrong view: cockpit, external, drone and some freelook modes require separate changes.
- Duplicate command: search by input and remove any second camera binding using the same stick axis.
- Digital assignment: if the control is listed as separate directions, swap those commands instead of looking for an axis toggle.
- Unsaved preset: apply the edit before leaving Controls, then verify that the simulator did not return to its default preset.
