Set up Saitek panels in FSX and Steam Edition, then fix driver, plug-in, USB power, SimConnect and blank-display problems.
To set up Saitek panels in FSX or FSX: Steam Edition, install the correct Logitech/Saitek panel software, connect and test one device at a time, allow the FSX plug-in to run, then load a powered default aircraft. Do not assign panel functions in FSX’s normal Controls menu; the plug-in drives them through SimConnect.
Which Saitek software does FSX need?
Each panel needs its matching manufacturer software and an FSX-compatible plug-in; Windows recognising the USB device by itself is not enough.

How do I install Saitek panels in FSX?
The most reliable installation order is FSX first, panel software second, and USB hardware last.
- Run FSX once. Start the simulator, load a flight and close it normally. This creates the active configuration files that the panel installer may need.
- Remove conflicting software. If an earlier installation failed, uninstall the old package for that panel and restart Windows. Leave unrelated yoke or pedal drivers alone.
- Install the matching panel package. Use the software intended for the exact Switch, Multi, Radio or Instrument Panel model. Keep the panel disconnected if the installer asks you to do so.
- Connect one panel directly. Use a motherboard USB port for the first test rather than an unpowered hub. Confirm that Windows detects the device without an unknown-device warning.
- Start FSX and approve the plug-in. If FSX asks whether the Logitech or Saitek component may run or be treated as trusted software, approve it. The displayed component name varies between package releases.
- Load a powered default aircraft. The default Baron 58 is a useful test because it has radios, a conventional autopilot and retractable landing gear. Turn on the battery, alternators and avionics before judging a dark display.
- Test one function from each panel. Change a radio standby frequency, adjust the autopilot heading, operate a switch and check the gear indicators. Add further panels only after the first one works.
A mistake we see constantly is opening Settings > Controls and trying to assign every panel switch. Standard Saitek panels normally communicate through their FSX plug-in, so they may not appear there as assignable buttons.
Why is my Saitek panel blank or not working in FSX?
The symptom usually identifies whether the fault is USB power, the panel plug-in, SimConnect or the aircraft being flown.

Windows can also suspend an older USB panel while FSX is running. In Device Manager, inspect the relevant USB hub’s power-management options and prevent Windows from turning it off to save power. Change only the hub associated with the panels, then test again.
How do I check the FSX panel plug-in?
The panel software should add a launch entry to the active FSX exe.xml file and start its background component with the simulator.
Boxed FSX normally keeps this file under %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX. Steam Edition may use either the FSX or FSX-SE application-data folder, depending on whether boxed FSX has also been installed. Use the folder containing the active FSX.cfg, and back up both files before changing anything.
If the launch entry is absent or the XML is malformed, reinstall the panel package after FSX has been run once. Do not delete the whole file when other add-ons have entries there. If a trust prompt was previously rejected, back up FSX.cfg, remove only the panel’s matching line from its [Trusted] section, and let FSX ask again.
Does FSX: Steam Edition need a different panel setup?
FSX: Steam Edition uses the same basic panel process, but older installers can select the boxed FSX path or expect a different SimConnect runtime.
This is particularly common on computers that have had both editions installed. Install or repair the compatible SimConnect components supplied with FSX: Steam Edition, then reinstall the panel software so it detects the right simulator. Do not copy random SimConnect DLL files into the FSX directory; Windows supports these runtimes side by side.

Do Saitek panels work with every FSX aircraft?
Saitek panels work most predictably with default aircraft and add-ons that use standard FSX radio, autopilot and electrical events.
Advanced aircraft may implement autopilot modes, battery logic or radios through custom local variables and internal code. In that case, a Multi Panel can illuminate yet fail to change the aircraft’s selected altitude, or a Switch Panel position may disagree with the virtual cockpit. That is an aircraft-integration limitation rather than failed hardware; use a profile or mapping method designed for that aircraft.
Can several Saitek panels share one USB hub?
Several panels can share a good powered USB hub, but each device should first be installed and tested directly on the computer.
Once every panel works alone, connect them to the powered hub one at a time. If adding one device makes another disappear, the problem is usually hub power, its cable or the USB controller rather than FSX. Moving the hub to a different motherboard USB port can also place it on a less heavily loaded controller.
