Why is Tobii eye tracking not working in DCS World?

In short

Tobii eye tracking not working in DCS World? Fix calibration, Game Hub profiles, executable paths, DCS settings, input conflicts and VR clashes.

Tobii eye tracking usually fails in DCS World because the tracker is not calibrated in Tobii Experience, Tobii Game Hub is not running or targets the wrong DCS executable, tracking is disabled in DCS, or another head-tracking or VR application has control. Recalibrate, correct the game profile, enable tracking, and remove conflicts.

Check the tracker before changing DCS

If tracking fails in Tobii’s own calibration or gaze-visualisation screen, the problem is outside DCS World. Reconnect the tracker directly rather than through an unreliable USB hub, confirm Tobii Experience recognises it, clean the sensor window and recalibrate for the display on which DCS runs.

Strong sunlight, reflections from glasses, an incorrect monitor assignment and sitting outside the tracker’s usable range can all interrupt gaze detection. Calibration success also does not guarantee game compatibility: the installed Tobii model must be supported by the DCS integration available through Game Hub.

If this is a first-time installation rather than a failure of a previously working profile, compare it with our clean DCS eye-tracking setup sequence before resetting anything.

How do I fix Tobii detection in DCS World?

The reliable repair order is to verify Tobii first, correct the DCS profile second, and remove competing camera inputs last.

  1. Close DCS completely. Restart Tobii Experience and Tobii Game Hub, install any available updates for those components, and confirm that gaze and head movement register before launching the simulator.
  2. Check the DCS game profile. Make sure Game Hub has detected the edition you actually use. Rediscover or reselect DCS after moving the installation, switching between Steam and standalone, or changing the executable used by a shortcut.
  3. Start Game Hub before DCS. Keep it running while testing. If DCS is deliberately running as administrator but Game Hub is not, process communication may fail; the cleaner arrangement is to run both normally.
  4. Enable the tracker in DCS. Check the Tobii or head-tracker options exposed by your installed integration and confirm that both head and eye contributions are enabled. Labels and their location can vary between DCS and Game Hub releases.
  5. Close competing trackers. Exit TrackIR software, OpenTrack, AITrack, FaceTrackNoIR and other webcam or phone-tracking tools. Remove duplicate joystick, mouse-look or camera-slew assignments that move the same view axes.
  6. Test a simple 2D cockpit. Turn VR off, use the display calibrated in Tobii Experience and load a single-player cockpit. Look straight ahead and use one assigned centring command; multiple applications issuing centre commands can cause snapping or drift.

What does each Tobii symptom mean?

The point at which tracking stops usually identifies the faulty layer.

Why doesn’t gaze move the cockpit cursor?

View tracking and cockpit mouse interaction are separate in DCS World. Tobii gaze normally contributes to camera movement; looking at a switch does not select or click it, and DCS need not display a visible gaze dot. Test the integration by watching the cockpit view, not the mouse pointer.

Tobii, TrackIR and head-tracker labels

DCS may identify Tobii output as a generic head tracker or a TrackIR-style device rather than showing a dedicated Tobii control column. Depending on the integration version, Game Hub can combine eye movement and six-degree-of-freedom head pose before DCS receives the camera input.

That label does not mean the wrong tracker has been selected, and installing TrackIR software simply because DCS mentions TrackIR can create another conflict. Our tracker detection, axis and centring checks cover the shared head-tracking side without requiring you to replace the Tobii setup.

Can I use Tobii eye tracking with DCS VR?

A monitor-mounted Tobii tracker should not be expected to control the main cockpit view in VR. The headset supplies head position, while the Tobii sensor under the monitor cannot track eyes hidden behind the headset.

Disable VR and launch DCS in desktop mode when diagnosing Tobii. If the fault appears only when a headset is connected or DCS unexpectedly enters VR mode, follow our DCS headset and runtime conflict checks separately.

Reset configuration only after isolating the fault

Reset DCS input files only when Tobii works outside the simulator and the game profile is correct. For a problem confined to one aircraft, back up the relevant module folder beneath Saved Games\[your DCS profile]\Config\Input, then reset or temporarily rename only that module’s input folder so DCS can rebuild its defaults.

If every aircraft is affected, reinstalling or repairing Tobii Experience and Game Hub is more relevant than immediately repairing the whole DCS installation. A DCS repair cannot fix a stopped Tobii service, an unsupported tracker, a stale Game Hub profile or an incorrect calibration.
