Train Simulator Classic has no dedicated official New Zealand route or NZR/KiwiRail rolling-stock pack in its base package or established DLC catalogue. New Zealand content is mainly community-made: route projects, scenery and NZR- or KiwiRail-inspired stock. Availability is patchy, and packages may be unfinished, withdrawn or dependent on other DLC.
Is there an official New Zealand route or DLC?
No dedicated New Zealand route forms part of Train Simulator Classic's established official catalogue. That means there is no supported national package comparable with the simulator's extensive British, German or American coverage. Older screenshots, development previews and forum references can give the impression that a complete New Zealand route was released. We only regard an add-on as available when its full route files, required assets and installation information can actually be obtained; an announcement or unfinished editor project is not a usable release.
What New Zealand community content can be found?
Community content generally consists of routes under construction, fictional New Zealand-style lines, reskins and small collections of custom assets.

Do not assume that rolling stock shown in route screenshots is included. A route can use privately held development assets, substitute models or separate downloads that are no longer distributed.
Which New Zealand trains can I drive?
There is no built-in New Zealand fleet, so every authentic NZR or KiwiRail locomotive, multiple unit, carriage or wagon must come from a community package.
- Standalone models contain the actual train geometry, cab and scripts, although they may still call on sounds or controls from another add-on.
- Reskins change only the appearance of an existing locomotive. If the donor model is absent, the New Zealand version will not appear correctly.
- Scenario consists are instructions for assembling stock already installed; they are not train downloads.
New Zealand's main-line network uses 1,067 mm narrow gauge. Train Simulator Classic may allow unsuitable stock to be placed on a route, but standard-gauge wheelsets will look wrong and may not align with platforms, clearances or narrow-gauge track assets.
How do I check a New Zealand add-on before installing it?
Verify the simulator, release status and complete dependency list before copying anything into Train Simulator Classic.
- Confirm the simulator. RailWorks, older TS20xx branding and Train Simulator Classic belong to the same product lineage. Microsoft Train Simulator, Open Rails and Trainz content is not directly compatible. A
.rwppackage is a strong TSC clue, although some TSC add-ons are supplied as ordinary folders. - Check that it is a finished release. Look for route files, documentation and working scenarios rather than relying on screenshots or development notes.
- Audit every dependency. Check required routes, track, signals, scenery, sounds and donor locomotives. Missing one core track pack can leave an otherwise installed route unusable.
- Identify what is included. Establish whether the download contains a route, rolling stock, a reskin or scenarios only.
- Back up and install carefully. Packages normally place files under the simulator's
AssetsandContentfolders. Follow our route and expansion installation procedure rather than merging folders blindly.
Why is the New Zealand route or train missing after installation?
Missing dependencies and packages extracted into the wrong folder level cause most failures.
- The route is absent from the driving menu: it may have no playable scenario. Check the route-building area before assuming installation failed.
- Track, signals or buildings are missing: one or more asset providers are absent or not enabled for that route.
- The New Zealand locomotive is invisible: a required donor model, geometry file or separate asset pack is missing.
- Nothing changes after adding assets: check for an extra nested
AssetsorContentfolder, then clear the simulator's cache using its settings or tools controls. - A package refuses to install: it may belong to a different train simulator despite being described simply as a “train sim” download.
