Why do different sources name different longest routes?
The answer changes when route mileage is measured differently. For an actual end-to-end drive, the useful figure is the distance along the main line from one playable terminus to the other.
- End-to-end mileage measures one continuous run and is the basis for naming Marias Pass.
- Total track mileage may add both tracks of a double-track main line, yards, branches and sidings. That can produce a larger figure without creating a longer drive.
- Scenario distance measures only the section used by a particular service, not the complete route.
Montana Hi-Line is a frequent source of confusion because figures for its entire modelled track network can exceed its terminus-to-terminus main-line distance. Always check what the published mileage is counting.
Can community or merged routes be longer?
Yes, third-party and community-built networks can exceed 152 miles, so there is no permanent longest route across every Train Simulator Classic installation. Their coverage, availability and required DLC differ, and later revisions can extend them again.
Installing two adjacent official routes does not join them automatically. A merged route is a separate build with its own route database and dependencies; owning the component DLC merely supplies assets or track sections the author requires.
How can you drive the complete Marias Pass route?
An end-to-end run requires a scenario or Quick Drive path that connects Shelby and Whitefish; owning the route alone does not guarantee every start-and-destination pairing.
- Open Quick Drive and select Marias Pass as the route.
- Choose opposite termini, using Shelby and Whitefish in the required direction.
- Select suitable diesel stock, because the route is not electrified.
- Check the path before departure. If the full pairing is unavailable, use a supplied end-to-end scenario or create an appropriate scenario rather than assuming the route is incomplete.
