What does native VR support mean in a train simulator?
Native VR means the simulator renders a separate view for each eye, tracks your head and provides an interface designed to work inside the headset. In the better implementations, motion controllers let you grip the regulator, operate brakes and press cab switches directly.

The clearest native-VR choices serve different kinds of railway enthusiast:
- Derail Valley combines first-person railway work with native VR, interactive controls, coupling, shunting and freight operations. It is the stronger choice when operating a full-sized railway is the priority.
- Rolling Line provides native VR with a model-railway focus. It suits players more interested in building layouts, controlling miniature trains and viewing the railway from different scales.
- Train Sim World VR: New York is a separate Meta Quest title built for VR. It is not a VR mode added to the main Train Sim World PC or console releases.

Can Train Simulator Classic or Train Sim World run in VR?
Train Simulator Classic has no official native VR mode. You can display it on a virtual screen in a headset, while unofficial injection methods may add limited depth or head tracking; neither approach converts its interface, cab cameras and controls into a dependable native-VR experience. What equipment do you need for VR train simulation?
For native PC VR, you need a compatible headset, its required runtime and a PC capable of sustaining a stable frame rate in the chosen simulator. A standalone Quest release runs on the headset itself and does not require a gaming PC.
- Tracked controllers: Required when the simulator expects you to operate cab controls by hand.
- Keyboard, gamepad or driving controls: Some titles support conventional inputs in VR, but finding keyboard commands while wearing a headset is awkward.
- A seated tracking area: Set the floor height correctly and leave enough clearance to turn, lean and reach without striking a desk.
- Headphones or headset audio: Directional sound helps identify brake releases, wheel slip and activity around the locomotive.
Do not assume that a RailDriver, joystick or home-built control desk will work merely because the simulator supports it in desktop mode. VR and physical-controller support are separate features. How do you set up a train simulator for VR?
Use the simulator's official VR mode whenever one exists rather than forcing the desktop version through an injector.
- Confirm the platform. Check that the exact edition supports your headset and whether it is a standalone or PC VR release.
- Connect and initialise the headset. Complete the headset's room or seated-boundary setup before launching the simulator.
- Select the native VR launch option. Some PC titles offer separate desktop and VR starts; choosing the normal one may produce only a monitor window.
- Recentre from the driving position. Sit naturally, face forward and reset the view so the controls are at a believable height and distance.
- Configure essential inputs. Map pause, recentering and any controls that cannot be operated reliably with tracked hands.
- Tune for stable performance. Reduce demanding shadows, reflections or render resolution gradually. Consistent frame delivery matters more in a headset than maximum visual detail.
Why does the simulator open on a flat screen?
A flat image usually means the desktop executable was launched, the VR runtime was not active or the title has no native VR mode.
- If the headset tracks normally but the game remains in a floating window, look for a dedicated VR launch choice.
- If the cab appears at the wrong height or behind you, sit in the intended position and recenter rather than moving the virtual camera manually.
- If tracked hands appear but controls do not respond, restore the game's default controller bindings and make sure its window has input focus.
- If text is blurred, adjust headset fit first, then increase render resolution cautiously. Raising every graphics option at once often introduces uncomfortable stutter.
Native VR is the right choice when cab presence and direct interaction matter most. A virtual screen is better when you want the broad route and locomotive libraries of conventional train simulators without accepting the compatibility and interface problems of an unofficial injector.
