Which controller feels better in a flight simulator?

The VelocityOne Flightstick generally provides the better stick and finer control options, but the T.Flight HOTAS One has the more natural throttle arrangement. Non-contact sensing also reduces dependence on wearing potentiometers, although spring tension, sensitivity curves and a stable base still affect precision.

The Flightstick works especially well where desk space is limited. Its trim wheel is useful for general aviation, and the extra controls reduce trips to the keyboard. The compromise is that its small base-mounted throttle levers do not feel like a conventional aircraft throttle quadrant.

The T.Flight HOTAS One lets you keep one hand on the stick and the other on a substantial throttle grip. What setup problems should you expect?

  6. Secure the controller. Lightweight controls can move during flare corrections or aggressive manoeuvres. Use the provided mounting options where practical, and test a direct USB connection if a hub produces intermittent disconnects.

Do you need rudder pedals with either controller?

No; both provide rudder control without pedals. The VelocityOne uses a twist grip, while the HOTAS One offers twist and throttle-rocker rudder operation. Pedals become worthwhile for crosswind landings, helicopters, taildraggers and coordinated general-aviation flying.

After adding pedals, clear the joystick or rocker yaw assignment rather than leaving two rudder axes active. Toe brakes must also be bound as separate left and right brake axes if the pedal set provides them.
