Dyess AFB’s ten approach procedures serve both ends of the principal runway, rather than concentrating instrument coverage on one direction. The mix of ILS, localiser and VOR procedures provides both precision and non-precision options. Runway 16/34 is 13,500 ft long, while the two secondary runways are about 3,500 ft; any aircraft requiring more than that distance therefore has only 16/34 available by runway length.
Among nearby fields, Abilene Regional and Avenger Field have the broadest chart sets, though both remain smaller than Dyess AFB’s. Winters Municipal, Arledge Field and Albany Municipal have much thinner procedure coverage. The Dallas–Ft Worth Sectional adds the wider visual-navigation context around Abilene that the airport diagram and terminal procedures do not show.
