Instrument coverage

Ambler’s procedure set is concentrated on a single RNAV (GPS) approach serving only one of the four runway ends. The other three ends therefore have no published instrument approach this cycle. With no airport diagram, the chart set offers little ground-layout detail beyond the procedure itself.

Runways and regional context

The two gravel-dirt runways provide different alignments, but the 4,000 ft runway offers 1,600 ft more length than the secondary strip. Among nearby fields, Selawik has the broadest chart coverage, Shungnak also has more than Ambler, while Kobuk’s set is similarly thin. The Fairbanks and Nome sectionals add visual-navigation and surrounding-area context not supplied by Ambler’s narrowly focused instrument charts.

Common questions about PAFM

What charts are available for PAFM?

3 current FAA charts for Ambler, including 1 instrument approach. All are free to download as PDFs from this page, from the 6 August 2026 cycle.

What are the radio frequencies for PAFM?

CTAF 122.7. Full civil VHF list, with sector notes, is in the frequencies table on this page — from the FAA NASR subscription.

How long is the runway at PAFM?

Ambler has 2 runways. The longest is 01/19 at 4,000 ft by 75 ft, gravel. Full runway dimensions, lighting and approach aids are listed on this page.

Does PAFM have an ILS approach?

No ILS is published. In total PAFM has 1 published instrument approach, of which 1 are RNAV (GPS).

Which runway do instrument approaches serve at PAFM?

Every published approach serves one runway end. There is no instrument procedure to the reciprocal direction, so an arrival in instrument conditions commits to that single approach direction regardless of the wind.

Is PAFM a towered airport?

No — Ambler has no control tower. Traffic co-ordinates on a common frequency rather than with a controller, which is listed in the frequencies table on this page.

Are these PAFM charts current?

They are from the FAA cycle effective 6 August 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. We publish each new cycle on its effective date. They are for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.
