Approach coverage across four runway ends

Iliamna’s five approaches serve four of its eight runway ends, so instrument coverage is spread across more than one alignment rather than concentrated on a single end. Four procedures use RNAV (GPS), while the remaining option is NDB-based. The two asphalt runways are similar in length at just under or just over 5,000 ft; the two shorter water runways provide separate north–south and east–west alignments for water-capable aircraft.

Local chart context

Nearby procedure coverage is distinctly thinner: Wilder Runway and Igiugig each have four charts, while Nondalton and Kokhanok each have three. The Kodiak and McGrath sectional charts add the broader VFR context absent from the terminal procedure set.

Common questions about PAIL

What charts are available for PAIL?

7 current FAA charts for Iliamna, including 5 instrument approachs. All are free to download as PDFs from this page, from the 6 August 2026 cycle.

What are the radio frequencies for PAIL?

CTAF 123.6. Full civil VHF list, with sector notes, is in the frequencies table on this page — from the FAA NASR subscription.

How long is the runway at PAIL?

Iliamna has 4 runways. The longest is 08/26 at 5,086 ft by 100 ft, asphalt. Full runway dimensions, lighting and approach aids are listed on this page.

Does PAIL have an ILS approach?

No ILS is published. In total PAIL has 5 published instrument approaches, of which 4 are RNAV (GPS).

Is PAIL a towered airport?

No — Iliamna has no control tower. Traffic co-ordinates on a common frequency rather than with a controller, which is listed in the frequencies table on this page.

How many runways does PAIL have?

4, which is why the chart set is as large as it is — each runway end that supports an instrument approach needs its own plates. The runway diagram on this page shows the layout to scale.

Are these PAIL charts current?

They are from the FAA cycle effective 6 August 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. We publish each new cycle on its effective date. They are for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.
