Western Alaska from coast to mountains

Broad Kuskokwim lowlands, Bering Sea margins and the western approaches to the Alaska Range give the McGrath sheet a distinctly varied Alaskan footprint. It covers a large part of the south-western interior, where river valleys, wetlands and open low country contrast with increasingly rugged terrain towards the east and south-east. The southern portion also reaches towards the Bristol Bay region, bringing coastal and inland landscapes onto one chart.

Connections to surrounding sheets

Routes continuing west pass onto the Bethel chart, while Anchorage and Seward provide the eastern continuation. Kodiak adjoins to the south; longer northbound routes meet Fairbanks to the north-east or Nome to the north-west. This arrangement is particularly useful for journeys crossing Alaska rather than remaining within a single valley or coastal district, with the neighbouring sheets following the transition between western lowlands, central interior country and the mountain-dominated south-central region.

Common questions

What area does the McGrath Sectional Chart cover?

It spans 59.4°N to 64.3°N and 164.2°W to 149.9°W. Airports on the sheet fall within Alaska. The full list of public-use airports within its coverage is on this page.

Should I download the GeoTIFF or the PDF?

Take the GeoTIFF if you are loading the chart into moving-map software or a flight planner — it is georeferenced, so the software can place it correctly on a map, and it ships with a world file and FGDC metadata at 300 dpi (59.0 MB). Take the PDF to print it or read it on a second screen (121.3 MB); it is the same chart without georeferencing.

Is this the current McGrath chart?

This is the FAA edition effective 9 July 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. Visual charts are reissued every 56 days and we publish each new edition on the day it takes effect. It is for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.

Which charts adjoin the McGrath sheet?

Anchorage to the east, Bethel to the west, Seward to the east, Kodiak to the south, Fairbanks to the north-east and Nome to the north-west. Each is linked from this page, so a route running off one edge can be continued on the next sheet.

Is the McGrath Sectional Chart free to download?

Yes, with no account required. FAA charts are United States Government works and are not subject to copyright protection in the US under 17 U.S.C. § 105. Guest downloads are speed-capped, so a sheet this size takes a while; PRO members download at full line speed and can take the whole family as one archive.
