Experience a refined depiction of Osaka International Airport (commonly called Itami) in Japan with this updated freeware file created by Ray Smith. Located in the Hyogo Prefecture area, Itami primarily handles domestic traffic for the greater Osaka region. This add-on modifies the existing Microsoft Flight Simulator X layout to include accurately placed jet bridges, newly assigned parking, better ground service paths, and a variety of smaller optimizations that help enhance overall immersion.

Layout Enhancements for a Realistic Environment

The author’s design reworks the default configuration using the ADE (Airport Design Editor) platform, integrating functional passenger boarding bridges at both terminals. These animated jet ways provide virtual pilots with a more dynamic ramp experience. Additionally, users can expect properly defined parking positions tailored to real-world traffic patterns, allowing AI aircraft to align with specific gates and stands. The adjustments also incorporate vehicle corridors and fuel access routes, ensuring that support services move around consistently while improving the flow of ground operations.

Functional Highlights

  • Animated Boarding Bridges: Seamless operation at the north and south piers.
  • Dedicated Gate Parking: Updated stands assigned to accommodate AI traffic realistically.
  • Vehicle Routing: Enhanced roads for fuel trucks and service vehicles, reducing ramp congestion.
  • Tower Viewpoint: Roof-of-control-tower vantage point for a wide survey of airport activity.
  • Compatibility Tested: Verified with Ultimate Traffic and WOAI, though not strictly required for functionality.

Installation Procedure

  1. Locate the file named RJOO.BGL.
  2. Place it into your “Addon Scenery/Scenery” folder found within your main Flight Simulator X directory.
  3. Restart your simulator to register the updated airport design.
  • Important: Confirm there is only one “RJOO.BGL” enabled to prevent conflicts with previous versions.

Removal Steps

  1. Delete or remove the RJOO.BGL from the “Addon Scenery/Scenery” folder to revert to the stock layout.

Additional Notes and Tips

For a panoramic view at Itami’s control tower, assign a key or button to the “View track/pan Toggle.” This control lets you freely pivot around in Tower View. Pressing it once unlocks your angle, and pressing again resets you to your aircraft’s starting position.

Refer to the provided readme file for more specific details. The developer, Ray Smith, respectfully acknowledges Jon Masterson for the ADE utility that made these improvements possible.

Fly responsibly, and enjoy crafting domestic routes in and out of Osaka International Airport.

Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
