This repaint brings a Swedish Air Force-inspired look to the Douglas C-117D in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, but it is entirely fictional. It pays tribute to historical Scandinavian military transport concepts while still preserving the distinctive characteristics of the Skytrain family. This add-on, which was assembled by B. Lechner, requires the freeware C-117D Skytrooper developed by Manfred Jahn, Alexander M. Metzger, and Hans-Joerg Naegele. The paint scheme was made possible in part by using the original paint kit, including modifications from Gordon “Gman5250” Madison.

Fusing Swedish Influence with the Twin-Engine Skytrooper

Although the Swedish Air Force did not operate the exact C-117D variant, local operators were known for adapting Douglas aircraft designs for Nordic conditions. This custom livery, therefore, envisions what a Swedish C-117D might have looked like if outfitted for cold-weather troop transport or cargo missions. The twin radial engines on the Skytrooper airframe—derived from the iconic DC-3 family—make it a capable short-field freight and passenger mover, especially in rugged Scandinavian environments.

Key Notes on This Repaint

  • Fictitious Swedish Air Force theme for the Skytrooper.
  • Developed by B. Lechner using a paint kit originally released by the aircraft’s design team, then refined by Gordon “Gman5250” Madison.
  • Requires the freeware C-117D Skytrooper (C117D_V1_BETA.ZIP) by Manfred Jahn, Alexander M. Metzger, and Hans-Joerg Naegele.

Installing the Livery

  1. Extract the downloaded ZIP file to a temporary directory of your choice.
  2. Copy the folder named "texture._SWEDEN" into your SIMOBJECTS/AIRPLANES/Douglas_C-117D directory.
  3. Open the aircraft.cfg file within Douglas_C-117D using a text editor.

Model Requirements for Operation

Because this is a paint-only release, you must have the freeware Douglas C-117D Skytrooper installed in order to load this Swedish Air Force-themed livery. You can find the base model in the Fly Away Simulation library. This add-on does not include the interior or panel from the base package, so be sure to have the complete aircraft files properly installed before adding this repaint.

Enjoy exploring your virtual Scandinavian routes or testing out the sturdy cargo capabilities with this unique Swedish-themed C-117D paint scheme.
