P.166 in XP11.X-Plane 10 And 11 Piaggio P.166. The Piaggio P166 is a twin-engine pusher-type utility aircraft developed by the Italian aircraft manufacturer Piaggio Aero. The aircraft model name was Portofino and is also known as Albatross in South African military service.

This X-Plane model is taken from a wonderful Blender creation by Baranger for FlightGear. The pilot is from the Pilot-Collection by Bertrand Augras. Includes a 3D cockpit.

The p166 was a favorite of mine when I first saw one way back in v8 or v9. This version is based on Baranger's GPL Blender work for FlightGear. I rearranged the blender objects to suit x-plane and reanimated the objects (by hand) - this one also has the landing gear animated (if you haven't tried to do this you cannot know how satisfying it is when you actually get it to work right! - open the objects with a text editor to see the animation commands.....) - Then built the x-plane pm model to match, and then got it flying ......etc.

Anyway, I suggest two notches of flaps for takeoff around 80. The speed limits for flaps and gear are reasonably fast, (a warning would be nice from xp11 rather than destroying the plane!) - It is also quite fast. The spec on wiki thingy seems to make it a little overpowered.

The work was done in XP10 PM, and tested in XP11.10. (XP11 PM takes too long to load) - so should be fine in XP10

3D Panel may not be perfect.

X-Plane add-on

  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.

  2. Place per readme

    X-Plane add-ons go into Aircraft/ (planes), Custom Scenery/ (airports, mesh), or Resources/plugins/ (plugins).

  3. Restart X-Plane

    Close X-Plane completely and relaunch. The new content loads automatically.
