Created by Colin Lowe using the Project Open Sky base model, this freeware package is tested and works seamlessly with Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It includes accurate animations, a realistic flight model, and custom lighting behavior for a more authentic experience. Although no virtual cockpit is included, this release uses the default Boeing 737-800 panel and sounds to deliver a straightforward yet engaging setup.

Key Aspects of the Delta Repaint

High-Resolution Texturing: This custom paint scheme depicts Delta Airlines’ latest color palette, showcasing the airline’s well-known branding on a Boeing 737-700. Delta, being one of the major U.S. carriers, extensively operates this short-to-medium-range aircraft across both domestic and international routes.

Project Open Sky Base Model: The underlying model comes from Project Open Sky, featuring a finely tuned exterior with dynamic flexing wings (the wings appear to move realistically under various load conditions), transparent navigation light covers, and reflective surfaces that change based on the material finish.

Compatibility: While confirmed to function properly in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, many simmers also use the aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 (FS2004) by placing it in the proper folder structure and verifying that supporting files are copied correctly.

Animation and Flight Dynamics

Installation Steps

This aircraft is packaged as a complete freeware add-on. To set it up:

1. Extract the download and place the new “B737D” folder into the “SimObjects/Airplanes” directory if using FSX (or the “Aircraft” folder for FS2004).
2. Open the “B737D” folder and copy the contents of its “effects” folder into your simulator’s main “Effects” directory.
3. Once installed, launch your simulator and choose the Delta Airlines 737-700 from the aircraft selection menu.

Lighting Controls

The cockpit switches for external lights can behave differently from default. You should press L to switch all external lights on or off. Specifically, the landing lights toggle using Ctrl+L if you want to deactivate only the landing lights while keeping the rest illuminated.

Additional Functionality

There is no integrated virtual cockpit, so the default 737-800 panel and sound configurations are leveraged for this release. You can, however, open the passenger door by pressing Shift+E. The realism extends to detailed textures, accurate spoiler positions, rolling wheels, and tilting bogies on touchdown.
