Details of This Orange Livery

This repaint comes in a heritage-inspired finish that mirrors a real-world Skyhawk circa the early 1970s. Craig Davis applied official Carenado blank textures (these files are sometimes called “template textures”) and completed all adjustments using DXTBmp and Paint.net tools. The result is a faithful re-creation of an older-era livery, featuring the aircraft’s distinctive trim lines and a vivid orange tone that stands out on any ramp.

Key Technical Notes

  • Compatible Model: Designed for the payware Carenado C172II N package.
  • Integration: Requires users to own and install Carenado’s payware model prior to adding these textures.
  • Simulator Support: Intended for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, though functionality may extend to other platforms if they support the same Carenado product line.
  • Customization: Users are free to refine the repaint further, given the original Carenado texture resources.

About the Real Airframe

The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a popular single-engine aircraft recognized for its forgiving handling and suitability for flight instruction. Introduced in the mid-1950s, the 172 has undergone numerous iterations, yet remains an aviation staple. The mid- to late-1970s versions featured variations in interior design and exterior striping, which Craig Davis has captured here with vibrant orange striping and authentic font placements.

Installation Guidelines

  1. Obtain and install the Carenado Cessna 172N payware model: This repaint relies on the Carenado C172II N files. An existing installation of that package is vital.
  2. Create a dedicated folder: In your “Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado C172II N” directory, make a folder named texture.Classic172_Orange.
  3. Copy default Carenado textures: Populate the newly created folder by duplicating the original texture.blue contents.
  4. Extract and overwrite: Move the files from Classic172_Skyhawk_Orange.zip into the new folder, agreeing to overwrite when prompted.
  5. Edit aircraft.cfg: Append the following lines under the next available section in aircraft.cfg, replacing x with the sequential number:
