FSX Streak Shadow
Streak Shadow “Stars and Stripes” livery refreshes the Rarewings microlight with crisp textures that suit its sleek pusher-prop profile and short-field character, ideal for lively low-and-slow flying. Built for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, it requires the separately purchased Rarewings Streak Shadow base aircraft and adds a distinctive patriotic finish.

1 totalThis unique repaint showcases the Streak Shadow microlight, originally designed by David Cook. It stands out for its reliable airframe and remarkable short-runway abilities, demonstrated most famously when David lifted off from a cricket pitch. This package is a repaint created by Neil Birch for the Streak Shadow by Rarewings, which is available as payware and must be acquired separately from a store such as SimShack. Enthusiasts using Microsoft Flight Simulator X will especially appreciate this addition, given the sim’s support for microlight and ultra-lightweight designs.
Microlight Design Background
The original aircraft, first developed in the 1970s, exhibits a sleek profile and a pusher-propeller configuration (a design approach where the propeller is mounted behind the engine). The Streak Shadow achieves a comfortable cruise speed near 100 mph, placing it among quick yet manageable microlights. The model’s versatility on diverse surfaces makes it appealing for those who enjoy challenging short-field landings.
Stars and Stripes Texture
The repaint by Neil Birch presents a “Stars and Stripes” motif that complements the aircraft’s agile facade. Rarewings has developed the payware base model, and this livery adds a patriotic flair without altering the performance. Users desiring a fresh look will find that this texture emphasizes the dynamic nature of the Streak Shadow's airframe.
Installation Instructions
After acquiring the payware Streak Shadow from Rarewings, follow these steps to install the repaint:
- Extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP archive to a temporary folder.
- Locate the “CFM Streak Shadow” directory within your SimObjects folder: (Typically found at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\CFM Streak Shadow).
- Copy the texture.usa folder into the “CFM Streak Shadow” directory.
- Open the file aircraft.cfg in a text editor. Below the existing [fltsim.1] section, paste the block shown here:

Save your changes and launch Microsoft Flight Simulator X. You will see the new repaint option in the aircraft selection menu. This repaint does not include the actual payware model; you will need to own the Rarewings Streak Shadow to fly with this texture. All credit goes to Neil Birch for creating this detailed Stars and Stripes design, and thanks to Rarewings for developing the model itself.
